Davy, Davy Crockett,

fightin’ fer lib-er-ty!

This compilation brings together the two feature films edited from the two Crockett series runs from the mid-1950s, the unusual 3-part mini-series (“Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter”,”Davy Crockett Goes to Congress”, and “Davy Crockett At the Alamo”) and the 2-part second series (“Davy Crockett’s Keelboat Urge” and “Davy Crockett & the River Pirates”) . It is a mountainous transfer of all the materials and something to kick befriend and utterly be pleased, both as nostalgia and as agreeable cinematic storytelling.

While some of the historicity here is arguable ( there was, for instance, no Creek war chief named “Red Stick”…the “Red Sticks” were a warrior clan WITHIN the Creek nation…and led by a WHITE man) , the depiction of Crockett’s character and personality as interpreted by Fess Parker, seem unprejudiced about dead-on . And the verve and spirit of the thing, enlivened by Tom Blackburn’s jaunty balladry, is fair a feast for the soul. And what more is there to say about the performances of Buddy Ebsen as George Russell and Jeff York as the irrepressable Mike Fink except “Bravo” (and let’s not overlook Kenneth Tobey, who played

Jim Bowie in the “Alamo” episode, only to turn around objective a year later to appear as Mike Fink’s “Gullywhumper” first mate, “Jocko”) .

An earlier reviewer “Richard Ceourdelion” (I hope Robin Hood got him safely returned to his throne) complained about not liking these compilations as considerable as the “dependable t.v. note”. Like another reviewer, I would ask “Why don’t you have both? “. The complete t.v. series…with hosted commentary by Leonard Maltin and with all the Walt Disney introductions, commercials, credits, etc., intact, has been out for several years now as allotment of the “Disney Treasures” Collection (comes packaged in an aluminum ‘tin’ that replicates a film cannister) . I have one and stare it often. This is the only dwelling you can hear the COMPLETE “Ballad of Davy Crockett”, as well as watch all the incredible line drawings that passe to frame each episode. And you will also witness something you never before realized…that the episodes you saw as a child of the fifties on a shaded & white t.v. were juxtapositions of SOME scenes shot in technicolor and SOME scenes done in unlit and white. Strikes you queer now when you seek it today…this switching benefit and forth…but it worked radiant on b & w television “draw encourage then”.

Of course for the theatrical release compilations—what you gawk in the versions specifically under review HERE—all the shadowy & white shots have been dropped and only the Technicolor footage retained.

The “movie” versions reviewed here are fair dazzling for all of us who unbiased want to examine it through. You accept the “meat” of the thing without all the extras. But if you want to gape the entire

series AS IT WAS BROADCAST, track down the Disney Treasures edition.

Now, if only they will bring out “The Sage of Robin Hood & His Merrie Men” (Richard Todd, Peter Finch), the SECOND best Robin Hood film after Errol Flynn’s, THIS boomer will be a pleased camper indeed (since “Darby O’Gill” IS out now, with “The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh” (Patrick McGoohan), reputedly in DVD preparation) .

Gratified days!

I missed out on the Davy Crockett craze, which means I did not have a coonskin cap and was not running around the neighborhood singing ‘The Ballad of Davy Crockett” over and over again. By the time I was watching television Fess Parker was Daniel Boone and not Davy Crockett, so it took a bit of mental rearrangement to derive my young mind around the concept that he was both when “The Incredible World of Disney” rebroadcast the adventures of Davy Crockett. They made enough of an impression that my brother and I compelled our parents to remove us the Disney report that had audio versions of the three adventures. So it has been nigh on thirty-five years since I done seen these unusual adventure of Davy Crockett and I was a might surprised to learn they own up gorgeous well.

“Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier” combines “Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter,” “Davy Crockett Goes to Congress,” and “Davy Crockett at the Alamo.” Davy and his sidekick Georgie Russell (Buddy Ebsen) cessation a Creek uprising and convince Chief Red Stick (Pat Hogan) to return to the ways of peace despite the abet of Captain Norton (William Bakewell) and with the tactic approval of General Andy Jackson (Basil Ruysdael), spends some time speechifying in the United States Congress, and then joins the little band of volunteers led by Jim Bowie (Kenneth Tobey) defending the Alamo against the Mexican army of General Santa Ana. The middle fragment of the trilogy is the weakest of the adventures seeing as how Davy has to dress up in esteem duds to stride around the halls of Congress. The conclusion at the Alamo is the most memorable sequence, having a more serious tone and some impressive production values when you mediate the entire battle is being shot on a soundstage (for years when I drew the Alamo it was the Disney version and not the proper one that I was drawing) .

Directed by Norman Foster and written by Thomas Blackburn, the biggest surprise in these episodes is Davy’s attitude towards the Indians. Instead of impartial killing Red Stick in their tomahawk duel Davy persuades the chief to return to the land. He stops Bigfoot Mason (Mike Mazurki) from stealing the land of Charlie Two Shirts (Jeff Thompson), gives a speech in Congress defending the honest of Indians to their tribal lands, and befriends the bold Busted Luck (Cut Cravat) on the device to the Alamo. The climatic battle has an appropriate gravity and does a tolerable job of sticking to history beyond reducing the role of Colonel Travis (Don Megowan) . When Davy sings a final song on the last night of the battle there is an unexpected poignancy, which contrasts well with the simple determination to conclude there until the extinguish. The explore of Davy swinging weak Betsy as a club while about to be overwhelmed by the Mexican troops is a memorable final image of our hero.

Ultimately the main strength of these stories are the performances of the two leads. Parker completely natural in the role and Ebsen shows an understated humorous touch throughout. The friendship between Davy and Georgie becomes the one constant throughout the adventures. There are several sparkling supporting performances as well, particularly Ruysdael as Andy Jackson and Tobey as a fatalistic Jim Bowie. Weak character actor Hans Conreid plays Thimbelrig, a gambler the boys acquire up on their plan to Texas. Granted, the nostalgic aspects of “Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier” is going to be a strong portion of the entertainment value here, but these are very favorable yarns for the Fifties.

“Davy Crockett and the River Pirates” includes both that fifth and final adventures of Davy Crockett (Fess Parker) and his friend Georgie Russell (Buddy Ebsen), and the previous account “Davy Crockett’s Keelboat Accelerate.” The favorite denominator between the two is not only the Mississippi River but also the self-styled King of the River, the braggart and brawler Mike Fink (Jeff York) . Unlike the first three adventures of the legendary American aloof together in the 1955 film “Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier,” these 1956 tales residence a greater emphasis on comedy (although Mike Fink’s character is a lot more realistic in the second adventure) .

The first half has Mike Fink getting Georgia all liquored up and betting all the furs he and Davy still during the winter on the outcome of a keelboat accelerate. The urge down the Mississippi to Original Orleans becomes as mighty of a battle of wits as anything else as Mike and Davy pull one trick on each other (Mike’s tend to be more underhanded) . However, in the extinguish the two become friends, and when Davy and Georgie encounter the River Pirates led by Sam Mason (Mort Mills), Mike lends a hand. The pickle is that the pirates have been dressing up as Indians to attack boats on the river and this is causing tensions between the steady Indians and the settlers. If there is one thing that defines Davy Crockett in these Disney adventures it is the fact that he is a friend to the Indians, which means our hero has to do something about this outrage. With Mike Fink pretending to be a tycoon, Davy sets a trap for the poor guys in the second half of the adventure.

While keen, “Davy Crockett and the River Boat Pirates” will probably appeal more to younger kids, while older folks will recall the fresh three episodes, both on nostalgic grounds and artistic principles. After all, the first three were looking more at the historical Davy Crockett and this pair is more about the legendary figure. Parker does not seem as comfortable with the slapstick as he does with Davy’s more serious side. When compared to “Davy Crockett at the Alamo” it is a bit hard to fill this is the same character. To underscore the point, compare the character of Jocko that Kenneth Tobey plays in these two Mississippi adventures with his exquisite performance as a realistic and fatalistic Jim Bowie at the Alamo; as well as anything those performances note the incompatibility between the “historical” and “legendary” adventures of Disney’s Davy Crockett.

The Unrated Versionsstar40 tpng Pitch Black Discount.
Here are the unrated versions of all of the Riddick tales. We get Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick, and The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, a short animated film. But will all of the movies and all of the extras, we are still missing the half-hour promotion feature where we see Riddick’s past. Originally he was a government assassin who was trained a bit too well. When the government was done with him they tried to eliminate him. Riddick survived and trumped up charges were invented sending him on the run. But that original story is missing from this collection.

Pitch Black. Riddick is one of a handful of survivors who crash on a bright and arid world. But once in a while, the three suns are completely blocked and true darkness covers the land. It is in this darkness that the remaining life on the planet comes out of hiding and goes hunting. Riddick must fight the dark, hold tr group together, and somehow escape the planet.

Dark Fury. Having escaped at the end of the first movie, Riddick and company are picked up by a bounty hunter who has a different idea of what to do with dangerous men. Now Riddick is faced with killers, monsters, and a captain who seems to worship the skill of killing and survival. This film is short and animated but uses the voices of actors from the other movies.

The Chronicles of Riddick. Here old acquaintances try to enlist Riddick’s help in stopping a force known as the Necromongers. It is their sworn duty to purge the flawed life of our universe so that they can be born in perfection in the underverse. This time Riddick is faced with his past, unstoppable armies, weapons of mass destruction and possibly the fate of the whole world.

A nice collection of some interesting films. Packed in a nice small package this is not just a bundle but an original collection. Plenty of action and tough guys for any appetite. See the full range of the Richard P. Riddick stories from the starkness of Pitch Black to the visually overwhelming Chronicles of Riddick. Check it out.

Good purchase for the casual fan.star40 tpng Pitch Black Discount.
I’m a huge sci-fi fan and was interested in the Riddick movies upon seeing them. I told myself that I wouldn’t buy any of them unless they came out all together in a box set. Well, here it is for $14 (WalMart) I couldn’t go wrong. All three movies on two discs. If you’re hardcore about these movies you might want to stick with the original single DVDs because I think they have DTS and animated menus. The Pitch Black movie on this collection didn’t even have scene select, but the chapter button did work, so you can skip during the movie, you just can’t select a spot ahead of time.

Anyway, Pitch Black and TCOR are Unrated, but I didn’t really notice too much in the 3 extra minutes of Pitch Black. I noticed some, but nothing really substantial that changes the movie’s overall tone at all. I was satisfied with The Tremors Attack Pack Franchise Collection even if it was a little condensed in some areas, so naturally I was pleased with this collection and its price. I recommend this series to all sci-fi fans looking for a good old fashioned epic series.

Great bargain. Great collection.star40 tpng Pitch Black Discount.
Having already owned the three Riddick films on dvd, I stumbled upon this collection and discovered that it contained all three films in a nifty bundle. So instead of having all three films in separate dvd cases, you get them all in one with this here. I went ahead & purchased this and sold the three separate Riddick films that I had prior. Afterall, what have I got to lose?

Granted there are some missing effects from the menu screens (noticeably on COR) the movies themselves are all kept intact in high quality as seen in their originals (which is excellent), along with the full director’s cut versions of both PB and CoR. Some may be wondering why PB & Dark Fury are on the same disc this time around. Well for one, Dark Fury’s a short enough movie to fit onto the same disc as PB without sacrificing much of anything, it’s actually better this way. Now you won’t have to switch inbetween disc to watch (granted you already owned both PB & DF prior, if not, please excuse this). Afterall, PB and DF interlace with each other. It would only make sense for them both to be on the same disc. You definitely get alot for this collection’s small retail price. You’re getting three films which could run you at $30.00+, for under twenty bucks. 400+ minutes of nonstop sci-fi action.

All in all, to those of whom already own all three films, there really isn’t anything new here to see with the exception of the gnarly dvd packaging, along with the films being in a single dvd case on two discs (no new features that weren’t already found in the originals) as opposed to three. However, to those who don’t already own the Riddick films (or to those who simply owned the prior films on vhs), now’s your chance to PICK THIS UP! The price alone justifies the purchase, and this collection serves as a great intermission into the Riddick universe.

One of the greatest bonuses to the space is the considerable anticipated and greatly debated extended version of the episode `Pegasus’ this special version is over an hour and a half long it was not aired in this format due to time constraints. It views like a feature movie. It has astonishing special effects and astonishing cinematography.

The bonus material, if not ignored, will wait on viewers better understand the choices made in preparing the episodes and the season for release.

This half of season 2 has many unusual twits and turns in the plots and lives of the characters. We are also introduced to current human cylon models. As to the express itself, in this half of season 2 the central character is Sharon, with her actions developed alongside those of (spoiler alert!) those of a few different Cylon version of her. Byond Sharon’s development on Batlestar Galactica and Battlestar Pegasus, which is presented as strongly intertwined with the fate of the whole human bustle, a gargantuan deal of the season deals with relationships – Professional and otherwise – and especially friendships. Striking interactions occur between President Roslyn and Commander Adama; in the complicated relationship between Starbuck and Apollo; with Sharon and, well honest about everybody.

In the broader design of things, by this point in the series the complexities of guiding a free population while trying to avoid the Cylon army has taken it’s toll on both military and civilian leaders of this rag-tag group of humans trying to pick up a unusual home on a lost planet called Earth.

The ample character development in this half of the season can be attributed to very strong scriptwriting. The cliffhanger ending leaves you mouth watering and you desperately awaiting season 3 – which hopefully, after snagging this DVD position, you can finally fetch caught up in watching. The Sci-Fi channel has to date released 4 of 10 web episodes that have tale line development between season’s 2 and 3. Season 3 begins airing in the US and Canada on October 7th for the first time the episodes will air in both countries at the same time. We here in Canada will not have to wait days, weeks or months for the US exhibit to finally near to Canada.

BSG is often called the best Sci-fi on television and Newsweek has gone so far as to call it the best drama on TV. With such high praise and the series consistently receiving enormous reviews – not to mention the special features and additions offered in the 2.5 DVD – how could this DVD box plot not be worth every penny?

So Say we all.

(First Pulished in Effect 2006-10-20 as ‘Galactica’s secon half sizzles: Recently released DVD site offers rewarding bonus features’.)

I care for this expose! In addition to being a enormous sci-fi series, it works perfectly well as a gritty drama. In the wake of the attempted genocide of the human speed, a hasty of 50,000 survivors have left their homes in an attempt to flee their oppressors, the half human/half machine Cylons, in an attempt to catch refuge on a diminutive planet called Earth.

Led by President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell), who is dying of cancer, and Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos), the quick was last seen about to do battle with… fellow humans? Yes, after the discovery that the Battlestar Pegasus has also been on the speed in the 7 or so months since the Cylons attacked the 12 Colonies of Kobol, a contrast about leadership has Adama and Roslin looking down the figurative barrel at Admiral Cain (Michelle Forbes), the commanding officer aboard the Pegasus and Adama’s gracious. The two-parter “Resurrection Ship” shows that the immaculate pair of Adama and Roslin can sink very uncouth if they need to in order to protect the like a flash. The two episodes also possess a expansive revelation regarding the Cylons that may allow the humans to actually originate to have a chance at combatting their enemies.

As the second half of the second season progresses, the characters that we’ve grown to appreciate (or in some cases, esteem to disapprove), are build through more trials as they deal not only with the Cylon threat, but also each other. Vice President Gaius Baltar (James Callis) has his loyalties divided due to the discovery of a captured Model No. 6 (Tricia Helfer) aboard the Pegasus. Of course, the twist is that they are divided three ways; to his fellow humans, to the corporeal 6 (known, possibly as a joke to a group of people who despise the display, who call the indicate GINO, or Galactica In Name Only) as Gina, and finally to the mental 6 that he sees in his head. Capt. Lee “Apollo” Adama, the commander’s son, is given more responsibility as his role as pilot and CAG is expanded to do gritty missions, including shutting down a sunless market ring. Of course, the now Captain Kara “Starbuck” Thrace acts tough as usual (but then, we wouldn’t have it any other plot), though her plot as best pilot/biggest b**** aboard Galactica is challenged by one of the pilots she trained in season 1. And the admire triangle of Sharon “Boomer” Valerii/No. 8 (Grace Park), Chief Tyrol (Aaron Douglas), and Karl “Helo” Agathon (Tahmoh Penniket) is further strained by the arrival of the cylon/human hybrid baby as well as the creation of a kind of “admire trapazoid” when Cally (Nikki Clyne) begins to vow her feelings for Tyrol. Even another cherish triangle forms when Lee begins to become the object of affection of Dualla (Kandyse McClure), considerable to the disappointment of her boyfriend Billy (Paul Campbell) .

Unfortunately, these 10 episodes maintain some of the weakest of the show’s race. Episodes like “Scar” and “Sunless Market” are only ok by comparison to some of the show’s episodes, most of which are incredible. Smooth, the weakest episode of Galactica is quiet 10 times better than the best episodes of most of what’s on television these days. There are many really profitable episodes in this place, including “The Captain’s Hand”, and “Sacrifice”. Also, the two-part “Resurrection Ship” is astonishing, as is “Downloaded”, which is told from the point of notion of the Cylons on the planet Caprica. However, I must say that “Lay Down Your Burdens, Pts. 1 and 2″ have ousted “Pegasus” as my fresh approved episode(s) . While the season finale does piece a exiguous similarity with the season 1 ender (the discovery of a planet), it is handled mighty differently this time around, and there are numerous other things going on. By the year’s waste, another Cylon model will be revealed (taking the total to 7 known models and 5 to be discovered), a few characters in the military will be promoted, and, in the second piece of the season finale (which is an extended episode), there will be more twists and turns than you can shake a stick at, especially in the last half hour.

The writers continue to tag as the characters are taken in huge recent and ghastly directions. This demonstrate is unpredictable, and it revels in going places many shows dread to tread. Every character is flawed in some plot, and the people inhabiting the universe of BSG are some of the most human characters on television. Sadly, we didn’t perceive worthy of Ellen Tigh (Kate Vernon), the insane wife of Galactica’s executive officer Col. Saul Tigh (Paul Hogan) . On his gain, Tigh is a self-destructive alcoholic, but Ellen serves to consume all his worse tendencies and amplify them, as well as planting ideas of ambition in his head (judge Lady Macbeth crossed with 24′s Sherry Palmer) . Ellen is atrocious, but she is section of what makes this demonstrate great; she forces Tigh to confront his demons in the most zigzag ways imaginable.

The stories are also amazing; the exhibit is very great a product of a post-9/11 America, and that is reflected in the grim, survivalist nature of the hasty. The humans once view that nothing could touch them, but now their entire draw of living has been obliterated, and they must predicament by living on crowded ships with meager rations to preserve them. Furthermore, the lines of advantageous and inappropriate aren’t drawn clearly; the Cylons idea their actions as unprejudiced and moral. Even though they claim not to condone destroy, in this case, the ends justified the means. And of course, no human is completely suited or unfriendly. Even Baltar, who can’t seem to grasp a side, can’t always be blamed for his actions, as he is certifiably insane. That doesn’t develop his depraved decisions and actions legal, but he isn’t doing them because he is “ghastly”. In a clever twist, the writers even reversed the roles of religion on the show; most of the time in film and television, the protagonists are monotheistic (unless they live in a time/place in history where a polytheistic religion is practiced), but here, the “pleasant” humans are the polytheists while the “contemptible” Cylons care for the “one right God”.

Battlestar Galactica is without a doubt one of the best series on television. While many people tend to peep down on science fiction series as trivial and childish, this is anything but. The messages that are found layered within the plots of the epic accurately assume the set of the world today. If you don’t want to capture my word for it, peruse at the numerous mainstream critics who treasure the expose, such as Time Magazine (which listed it has the best modern prove of 2005) and Entertainment Weekly, which is trying to regain the present nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Drama (which, unfortunately, it probably won’t come by due to the academy’s phobia of sci-fi; but then again, LOST won, so I guess anything’s possible) . If you have yet to check this indicate out, buying season 1 should be a top priority for you!

Last year in Japan a monumental event took station. Over the course of one year the thirteen section series Position Pirate Captain Herlock: Endless Oddessy/Outside Fable was released on DVD. The DVD’s were released once a month on the 21st of every month in 2002-2003. Now the series has advance to America. And it has been well worth the wait.

The Region Pirates have been rounded up. All except for one. The legendary Captain Herlock (prononced “Harlock”) . He is currently in exile on the Planet Of Rubble. When his friend Professor Daiba is killed by the entitys known only as the “Nu”, Herlock once again sets wing on the Sea Of Stars to procure to the bottom of these mysterious beings appearance.

Directed by Taro Rin, this DVD collection surpasses Harlock Saga released two years ago by Central Park Media. The first volume contains the series initial four episodes. The animation is obedient. It level-headed retains the classic Matsumoto study while being very unique. The CGI animation has been refined dramactically and now looks better integrated into the classic 2D animation. No more of the plastic looking ships like in Harlock Saga. The one complaint I have is that sometimes the transfer looks a tad on the grainy side, but that has only been in a few places. The sound on this DVD is also generous. Both language tracks are presented in 5.1 Stereo Surround Sound. The default language setting is English with translated Signs. This sounds like it would be obtrusive but Pioneer/Geneon has made definite that the subtitled signs would not be placed so as to be a hinderance. The quality of the English declare acting is also top notch. Herlock has always been a very much character and his English assure conveys that very well. When he speaks, you listen.

The Extras on this disc are a diminutive sparse. There’s a character gallery, Japanese Intro, trailers, and that’s about it. Hopefully future volumes will include more.

There are not enough words to represent what a extraordinary series this is. For Matsumoto fans this is a must have. For anime fans this DVD will produce an splendid addition to your library that you can proudly demonstrate.

Yes indeed. He has returned……..

Over the years the one anime series which has left a long impression was the “Place Pirate Captain Harlock” sequences from the “Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years” series that aired on TV. Until then, only the Galaxy Recount movies and Arcadia of My Youth have lived up to my initial expectations of what Harlock is about: sacrifice, heroism, and the coming of age.

I first saw this DVD at a friend’s house and was more than pleasantly surprised as it really does seem to retract what I loved about the initial series. The artwork, sound, and dialogue are terrific. The record is reminiscent of the first series, though this is not a remake.

What can I say? Five stars.

Arguably the best crime film of 1968, and certainly one of the most influential films of the genre….”Bullitt” established current directions in the mood and style of crime thrillers, and firmly established McQueen as one of the key anti-hero stars of the 60′s. Based on the gritty original “Tranquil Seek” by Robert L. Pike, this was the first, and only, time McQueen portrayed a police officer (albeit a maverick one) in his movie career. In 1968 Steve was then riding high on the success of his previous heist film, “The Thomas Crown Affair”, and “Bullitt” fair propelled his star even higher into the cinematic heavens!

The place is tight, economical and well crafted….taciturn, mopish Detective Frank Bullitt (McQueen) is charged with the protection of a key peep indispensable to an upcoming trial attractive Mafia connections. Whilst hidden away in a supposed score space, the sight and his police guard are brutally gunned down by unknown assailants. The heat is turned up on Bullitt by his tough Captain (Simon Oakland) and the manipulative, opportunistic politician Walter Chalmers (Robert Vaughn) to arrive up with the moral answers fleet! Between the draining investigation, Bullitt struggles to possess his relationship with his cultured, sensitive girlfriend, Cathy (Jacqueline Bisset)

Primarily coming from a TV series background, Englishman Peter Yates (directing his fourth movie) did a commendable job as director on “Bullitt”…producing a complex, intense crime thriller with a new style that would ultimately influence many other films. Yates would later to go onto lisp tough guy Robert Mitchum in the obedient 1973 “sleeper” crime film “The Friends of Eddie Coyle”!

And of course “Bullitt” is reknowned for it’s now legendary car scamper between Frank Bullitt’s 390 GT Mustang and the two hitmen in their sunless, Dodge Charger 440 Magnum barrelling through the city streets and highways of San Francisco….unbiased don’t pay too powerful attention to how many times they pass that slow-moving, green VW Beetle!!

The DVD transfer is edifying in both sound and relate quality, and the Slight Edition Collectors Spot with the additional goodies (Single sheet poster, shooting draft, lobby cards etc.) is a right bonus for enthusiastic film fans!!

One of my favourite cop thrillers….McQueen sizzles on hide!!

I have read GQ and other men’s fashion magazines for the last 20 years. No single person is mentioned as a men’s style icon more often than Steve McQueen, and this movie defines his style most clearly. What I consider that is not often understood, is why his style is so beloved. It is minimalist, yes, but also, this is someone not playing the middle class America game.

1) He lives in a diminutive apartment. The furniture is ordinary, with a few hip 60′s touches. (Gaze for the report over his bed, his paisley bathrobe, the wintry paper hanging lampshade, and a couple of hippie style items on the walls) . You salvage the impression he owns about six pairs of clothes at most. He eats cheap frozen dinners (except for the occasional date at the chilly San Fran Restaurant) . He is not wasting this time and life keeping up with the Jones’s.

2.) He is not climbing the career ladder. On this case, he doesn’t give a notion to politics. He is not chasing the American ideal of success.

3.) Spy closely and you will spy his car, the most noted in any movie ever, is a olive drab color. Not candy apple gleaming red. It is a Mustang, a symbol of blue collar America. It is dusty, and he parks it in the street, not a garage. He does not peep it for door dings every time he goes out to it. It has dents in it. You find the impression he doesn’t employ his free time polishing and waxing it.

4.) He doesn’t use his time chasing money. He spends it on his job, trying to do what he thinks is legal, not what is excellent for office politics and promotion.

5.) His clothes are 60′s pre-hippie fashion perfection (examine for the extremely tapered legs, the suede loafers, and of course the distinguished tweed blazer and blue turtleneck) .

In summary, I judge it is laughable that people idolize McQueen’s personal style in this movie and yet they don’t realize why. It is not objective the stoicism, or minimalism. It is the worn fashion American values (judge Venerable West) . Fair something to judge about as you discover one of my well-liked movies of all time.

I loved it!!!!!star50 tpng Bring It On: Fight to the Finish Retail ! Sale Only $2.99!
I know what a lot of people are thinking, OMG, another freakin’ bring it on movie. First of all: The franchise is really a trilogy (1,3,5), 2nd: Give this one a chance, you will be surprised. There were new lines that are repeatable, mostly spoken by the Character Gloria. These movies do present an element of cheese, but let’s face it, that is what makes them fun. You aren’t watching these with the intent in finding a new oscar contender. As soon as it was over, I wanted to watch again, something that I would never say about any of the others, except for the original. The movie finally brought it!!!! The music was good as well. I never heard a Christina Milian song in my life, and now I am looking to buy the soundtrack. It was a mixture of the 1st and 3rd movies brought together with a Step Up feel. I loved it an now i will watch it again!

Who said that Bring It On: Fight to the Finish is “nothing to get excited about”? … CHRISTINA MILIAN!!! She is so HOT!!! This “Bring It On” was pretty good. There were a lot of racial comments or race jokes aimed toward Lina and her friends which were unnecessary (this makes you dislike Avery and her cronies even more!!!). I don’t know how anyone can cheer for Avery. Avery and her Jaguar friends are worse than “The Plastics” from “Mean Girls”.

Back to BIO 5, I agree with one of the other comments because there were a lot of stereotypes or overexagerrated portrayals of latinos & latinas (Gloria’s boyfriend was the most annoying!!). The movie was good though (not just because of Xtina Milian!!!). Well … come to think of it …
I only watched this movie because of Christina Milian!!! I <3 her in "Snow Globe", "Man of the House", and "Love Don't Cost a Thing".

The original “Bring It On” is the best one. I would say that “Bring It On: FTTF” is the second best!!

Christina Milian delivers the star power. This movie was the third time that she played a cheerleader! 1) Love Don’t Cost a Thing, 2) Man of the House, 3) BIO:FTTF. So, she knows how to play a cheerleader!!!

Okay here is a ***Summary*** (without spoiling it).

Lina has to move from her East LA neighborhood to Malibu because her mother got engaged to a very rich man. She has to leave her two best friends behind and she struggles to fit in at her new school. The villain Avery is captain of the All-Star cheerleader squad “The Jaguars” (who pratice elsewhere because they are not the official school cheerleaders). The school’s cheerleading team “The Sea Lions” really stink and Lina (Xtina M) has to join them. She is elected captain and she has to try to turn The Sea Lions into Winners. ***This part was similar to “Bring It On Again” (worst BIO Movie!!), but it was done better here*** The asian girl on The Sealions is kind of cute and funny.

So it is up to Lina and her crew to take on the evil Avery (who is also a SNITCH) and the Jaguars.

You will enjoy this movie if you don’t take is so serious. This is a great film about friendship and overcoming obstacles in your way.

**THE SOUNDTRACK** is also nice. The other Bring It On movies (2,3, & 4) had no soundtrack. The only 2 with soundtracks are the Original “Bring It On” and part 5

*~ BONUS FEATURES~* On this DVD were great! I loved Christina Milian’s Video Diary

I still remember back in 2000, when my highschool friends and I went to the theater to go see “Bring It On”. Great high school memory (which is why I wrote this review).

I am glad to see that there is another entertaining “Bring It On” movie!!!

The Bring It On series has survived a long time!!! I was in high school for the original (2000) and now I am in graduate school for “Fight to the Finish” (2009).

Christina Milian has brought the “Bring It On” series back to life!!!

Who knows? We could see “Bring It On 6″ soon & then part 7!!!

The chronicle is only one water horse lives per generation. When the mature one is ready to die, they lay an egg from which the modern water horse is hatched and must grow up on its fill as an orphan.

In this case, a young boy named Angus McMurrow found the egg and helped the waterhorse hatch and grow. That’s not a mean feat, considering this is World War II and a cadre of British soldiers are staying in the manor house where Angus’ family lives. But if any kid is in need of a friend, it’s Angus. You discover, his father went off to war–and Angus unexcited believes he’s going to reach befriend despite being told to the contrary. Angus finds a surprising ally in Lewis Mowbray (Ben Chaplin), a returning soldier who unexcited believes in the stale myths and is in need of a dream as distinguished as Angus is.

Of course, the complication is the British soldiers led by a toff commander who’s trustworthy father probably stuck him in Scotland to hold him out of the action. They consider that the Germans are going to approach down Loch Ness and they’ve got the guns and ammo to prefer care of the spot if they do. Not a healthy environment for a baby water horse to grow up in…

“Water Horse” is beautifully filmed. It captures the rugged beauty of Scotland amazingly. The soundtrack, by James Newton Howard (of Toto fame and too many soundtracks to name) is shapely. The music is perfect–as always.

Warnings:

Kids younger than five had problems with some of the scenes and a couple had to escort their terrified parents out into the lobby

Crossing a chronicle between an explanation of the fabled Loch Ness Monster with the backdrop of World War II, `Deep Water Horse’ comes across as `Pan’s Labyrinth’ for children. Chunky of whimsy and brimming with innocence, the movie is a harbor for the imagination.

Taking space in Scotland where the epic of Loch Ness has allegedly been spotted, an elderly man engages a couple at the local pub where he relates a fabled adventure of the past. Transporting us in the fable to 1942, Angus MacMorrow examines some “magical shells” around Loch Ness to glean and capture home. His father has been absent from The War for about a year now. Angus (perfectly cast as Alex Etel of `Millions’ fame) spots one and takes it home to his father’s workshop where he tries to pry through its exterior to net comely layers beneath. Being called away, it is a short time later that noise in the shop alerts him of some fresh development. Angus to his astonishment sees a creature waddling on the floor of his father’s shop. Looking considerable like a wrong between a seal and a platypus, the awkward young thing soon takes a liking to Angus who feeds it and makes some station for him in a bucket of water.

The effort is Crusoe, as he soon names him, grows very mercurial. Trying futilely to withhold him from his sister, Anne (Emily Watson), his mother (Lorraine McDonald), and a newly hired hand, Lewis (Ben Chaplin), he, nevertheless, puts him in the bathtub. Soon everyone except his mother is in on the secret, but once he grows too enormous, it is apparent he must let him go abet to the water to accommodate his amphibious nature.

Enter the Scottish army. While they laudably provided for the Allies, they do develop life heart-broken for Angus and will soon do so for Crusoe when they fetch his presence in Loch Ness. Captain Hamilton (David Morrissey) is a reassuring presence for his mother, who certainly could spend a man around the house, but the changes are certainly unsettling for Angus, who needs Crusoe as a reassuring outlet and companion. Crusoe is a nice sprint for a boy who misses his father and must deal with a surrogate who knows cramped more than to say, “The boy needs more discipline.” (In this diagram I saw the closest parallel to Pan’s Labyrinth.)

The scenes when Angus rides and befriends Crusoe are a highlight of the film, and the roguish voyage is filled with nifty special effects. Some of the stagger scenes in the harbor and around the house hold a roguish spirit to the adventure. Like ‘Stardust’ and ‘Enchanted’ before it, ‘Water Horse’ is an engaging and fun plug. While some of the elements borrow a bit from the classic ‘E.T.,’ this film is modern and transporting enough in its beget legal. (Based on the book by Dick King-Smith)

The second season of Adult Swim’s The Venture Bros. surpasses its first in nearly every arrangement. The first season introduced us to the Venture universe, which is occupied by hilarious characters who never finish to near unique levels of incompetance. Many of the episodes were laugh-out-loud hilarious that remained so throughout the entire half hour. So if season 1 was taht helpful, yet this year is so mighty better, that really says something to the quality of season 2.

The precredits sequence of the season premiere, “Powerless in the Face of Death”, is fabulous to gawk, though some of its power may be lost on DVD. There was a 2-year gap between seasons 1 and 2, and season 1 ended with the deaths of Hank and Dean Venture, the title characters. In the hiatus period, there was a lot of speculation of how the explain would go on (Dr. Thaddeus Venture and his brother Jonas Venture, Jr. would be the modern Venture Bros., Dr. Orpheus would ressurect them, Dr. Venture would clone them, Dr. Venture would exercise the Grover Cleveland time machine to put them), and it would be an understatement to say that fans were eagerly awaiting to seek what happened next. Area to the tune of the song Everybody’s Free, the opening sequence is a montage of the various major characters, reminding us where they were left and how they are dealing with their various situations. Dr. Orpheus is peaceful upset about the boys’ deaths, for which he blames himself, the Monarch is level-headed in prison while Dr. Girlfriend appears satisfied, if somewhat bored, living with Phantom Limb, and the Mondarch’s henchmen have nowhere else to go after blowing up the Coccoon lair. Pete White and Master Billy Quizboy have fitted Jonas with a robotic hand replacing his deformed chicken-wing-like appendage. Meanwhile, it appears that Dr. Venture hasn’t been coping well with his sons deaths. He steals the X-1 jet, forcing his bodyguard Brock Samson to go on a global hunt for the great doc.

By the slay of the first episode, we catch out the creepy truth about the Venture Bros, which was heavily hinted at in the first season. From there the 13 episodes of the season, with possibly one exception, are reliable. One thing I liked this year was that there was a exiguous more of an overarching chronicle to the season. The first year had episodes that were resplendent great all stand-alone stories, which work with a point to like the Venture Bros., but I’m a mammoth fan of serialized story-telling, and when I started to glance developing stories at the demolish of season 1, I was really indignant. The season’s arc actually has to do with the villains, though. It is about the Monarch’s quest to net Dr. Girlfriend help from Phantom Limb. The first two episodes of the season note how he escapes from prison and begins to rebuild his influence. Throughout the season, episodes like “Victor. Echo. November.” and “I Know Why The Caged Bird Kills” demonstrate the hilarious breeze that the Monarch takes to rep support his savor from a vastly marvelous villain.

Still, there are plenty of stand-alone episodes. In my view, no other Venture episode embodies that conception so well than “Flee From the House of Mummies, Section II”. The episode satirizes multi-episode stories, as there is no Fraction I, but it also pulls a stout trick by switching around the A and B stories. While the account of Hank, Dean, and Brock’s plug through a cursed temple accompanied by various historical figures would normally be the focus of the episode, it is merely the backup account that supplements the memoir of a droll bet between Dr. Orpheus and Dr. Venture over whether magic or science is wonderful. “Twenty Years to Midnight” is a sizable example of parody of adventure tales, with the Venture family trying to track down various pieces of a machine built by Hank and Dean’s grandfather. The Impossible family, a wonderfully crooked parody of the Incredible Four, prove up to execute things more difficult for the Ventures, and a cameo by Johnny Quest (the main influence of the expose) construct for an wonderful episode. Nearly every episode was phenominal (with the exception of “Guess Who’s Coming to Residence Dinner? “, which even the creators kind of agree with), from “Fallen Arches”, which introduces Dr. Orpheus’ outmoded team to “Loathe Floats”, which features a team-up of Phantom Limb and Brock.

The season ends with the 2-part extravaganza “Showdown at Cremation Creek”, which completely changes the spot quo for the next season. There is a wedding, a vast battle led by Brock and soldiered by the Monarch’s henchmen, a bizarre fantasy sequence appealing Dean filling in the role of the lead in The Neverending Legend, and David Bowie! It ends with a colossal cliffhanger, though after having the title characters die, it would be hard to match the season 1 cliffhanger.

While there are plenty of crazy situations, the exhibit wouldn’t be half of what it is without the astounding characters. With few exceptions, everyone in the Venture universe is somehow a failure. Dr. Venture is utterly incompetant as a “super-scientist” despite what he believes, his sons are oblivious to nearly everything in life (Dean and Hank reflect that an erection is caused by spoiled spirits), and Brock, though a mammoth bodyguard, has no self-control. The Monarch and his henchmen can barely do their “jobs”; the Monarch is jealous, conventional, and unable to understand why people can’t find anything done, while his henchmen are out of shape nerds who quiver at the words “Brock Samson”. Though Dr. Orpheus is a competant necromancer, he is a know-it-all workaholic who drives away the people he cares about.

Most guest stars from season 1 returned, including the Pirate Captain, the Impossibles, Peter White and Billy Quizboy, Baron Underbheit, and the Impossibles. All of these characters were loved by fans, and were effectively feeble this year as well. But there were plenty of original characters this year that speedy became fan favorites as welll. Personally, I really want to seek more of Jefferson Twighlight and The Alchemist, the two other members of Dr. Orpheus’ group the Order of the Triad. Twilight is a parody of Blade and the Alchemist is a glad monk who can’t really decided what to do with his life (voiced by Dana Snyder of Aqua Teen Hunger Force) . Dr. Henry Killinger is a hilarious “consultant” whose proper purpose is better left to be found out while watching. Finally, there was the uncommon Observor from “Twenty Years to Midnight”, whose catchphrase “IGNORE ME!” was incredibly droll every time it was spoken.

Despite one misstep, this is a tremendous season of consuming television. Many shows on Adult Swim’s lineup (that were created for AS) survey awful; the animation and/or spot appear to be worth almost nothing, but the Venture Bros. is at the other waste of the spectrum. Despite being underrated, it is one of the funniest cartoons I’ve ever seen, ranking up there with South Park and The Simpsons.

First of all, let me proper Fernando Gonzales by saying that this note IS level-headed hand-drawn … only the coloring and inking are digitally done. That’s one of the reasons it’s a celebrated of mine, really.

Now, on to the review. It’s not that I didn’t believe Jackson and Doc would be able to top Season One. It’s that I knew they could … and they Detached blew me away. If you’ve seen Season One of The Venture Brothers, you -need- to inspect this one. It’s got everything the first had, and more … the character development, in particular, is absolutely stupendous. The boys at Astrobase Go really know their characters, and they’ve started to present us objective how remarkable.

If you like your cartoons intelligent, comical, curious, and plump of more clever pop culture references than you can shake a shrink ray at, check this one out. I did, at the urging of a friend, while the first season was serene out, and I was hardly disappointed. VB is one of the few shows on television I actually care about missing, these days. I’m looking forward to seeing what the special features and commentary have in store, too – the ones on The Venture Bros. – Season One were phenomenal.

So, in the words of Dr. Byron Orpheus… “Yes! GO, Team Venture!”

THIS IS AN EDITED VERSION OF THE ORIGINALstar10 tpng Tides of War Review.
Be warned ! This is the edited version of the movie that originally appeared on “here-tv”(the gay television station). This version does not contain at least two scenes where Adrian Paul and Mike Doyle are kissing (they are lovers). The movie was originally titled, “Tides of War.” Another scene edited out is when Catherine Dent’s character tells Adrian Paul’s character that she has found the letters that he sent to Mike Doyle’s character.
I rate this version of the movie 1 star for editing those scenes. The original version shown on here tv was a 5 star.

Adrian Paul Deliversstar50 tpng Tides of War Review.
I bought the movie beacuse Adrian Paul was in it. Adrian Paul fans will love it. He looked very good in the uniform and he played the role of the Captain very well. I read the other reviews for USS Poseidon-Phantom Below, and I did not know that there was supposed to be any gay element in the movie. That the commander had just lost his best friend in a tragic accident that he felt responsibility for as the captain was the only message that I got. It seems that the movie was edited from the origional,Tides of War. At any rate, the story could have focused more on the phantom submarine that hunted them but overall it was an enjoyable movie and well worth what I paid for it used.

Not a Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Moviestar30 tpng Tides of War Review.
Commander of a submarine, whose lover happens to be his XO are tracking a new type of submarine in the waters off of North Korea. One touching scene between the Commander and XO/lover. Adrian Paul does a good job as usual. Realistic setting. Gay was not an issue is this, don’t ask/don’t tell didn’t come up.

I’m not distinct we’re all seeing the same movie here. One comment I support hearing is that the actresses did not originate well, and I cannot comprehend it. Ziyi Zhang especially gave one of the best performances I have seen in years, at least. Honest watch at her physically shaking during her last scene with Ken Watanabe. This complete giving over to the emotion of the character is nearly unsurpassed in anything I’ve seen in years, and I’m a substantial cinemaphile. That’s not to mention the flawless contrivance she carried the postures and demeanor of the child star that played her young self through-out, giving a sense of consistency that I have almost never seen done this well. It’s early impossible to remember that these two actresses are not really the same person with the intention their performances meshed. So, maybe it’s the reserved nature of Asian women, and the dualing of this nature with a sense of individuality and self-expression that people are interpreting as “not conception the character”?

All I can say is, the cinematography and settings are magnificent, as are the actresses (and what a stellar cast!), the performances are stout (maybe the bar has been lowered so powerful lately that the degree of skill brought to the shroud here is more than some people can handle) . That’s the only reason I can offer for the terrible reactions I have heard.

The fable is engaging, and very realistic in terms of human nature. The romance is fabulous. There are flashes of humor and some of the script is pure poetry (and as a poet you can gain me on that!) I could go on all day, but let me objective say this.

The movie is awesome, and the time flew by for me. It is not the over-wrought heart-rending sap that some may want it to be, but it is very accurate to the design most people behave, and especially in the reserved manner of the Japanese. In my book everyone enthusiastic in this deserves a tall round of kudos, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys gorgeous things, and incredibly realized films.

Memoirs of a Geisha is a comely movie. I haven’t read the book, but now wish I had. The movie is discontinuance to 2 1/2 hours long, but the fable and scenery are so provocative, it seems so noteworthy quicker. The costumes are astounding and it’s no wonder they are nominated for Oscars.

It tells the myth of a cramped girl called Chiyo who along with her older sister, is sold by their father who has no money. The people who bought her, want to execute her a geisha so she goes off to school but brings disgrace to herself and therefore they acquire her their slave. Upon chance, she meets a kind man who buys her a sweet cherry ice cone. She never forgets him and sees him again by chance some years later. Now she has hope and learns again (in a wreck course) how to be a geisha and her fresh name is Sayuri.

The epic that unfolds from there has ups and downs but the ending is so racy that of course I cried my head off. The setting is lovely and it made me want to go and visit Japan. The music too is graceful and I hope they do salvage some Oscars next week because it’s a very deserving movie. There is also a immense performance by an actress called Li Gong who plays ‘Queen Bitch’ Hatsumomo and observe for a runt role played by Ted Levine who we normally contemplate in a comical role as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer in Monk.

Beautiful proceed that you absolutely have to watch. (Especially on the mammoth shroud if you peaceful can) .
