If you haven’t seen the film for a while, the very high points are the song “White Christmas” and its reprise and two of Fred Astaire’s more unforgettable numbers: a solo dance with firecrackers and a falling down drunk number that has to be seen to be believed. But to be sparkling, all the numbers are memorable, from the classic “You’re Easy to Dance With” to the 18th Century-influenced “I Can’t Converse a Lie” and the blackface hommage to Abraham Lincoln, “Abraham”, one of Irving Berlin’s best “unknown” songs. The two underrated female counterparts (Marjorie Reynolds and Virginia Dale) are also quite nimble and copacetic.

This edition has kept all the extras of the 2006 Special Edition: “A couple of Song and Dance Men”, a 50 min double biography of Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire that has a lot of involving footage from many of their movies not yet on DVD, hosted by characterize producer Ken Barnes and Ava Astaire; “All Singing – All Dancing”, a 7 min demonstration of how the dance numbers were filmed and save together (dancing to a pre-recorded soundtrack + live recording of the tapping sound with hidden microphones) ; a very thorough multiple commentary with input from vintage Crosby and Astaire interviews; and a well-preserved theatrical trailer.

It also includes a 12-band CD collection of the film’s songs with Crosby and Astaire (from Geffen Records) presented in a cute dinky cardboard 78-RPM sleeve – a grand collector’s item, and a 7 min making-of docu of the color version with Barry Sandrew.

The Fable Films color version, in my plan, reaches yet another summit in verisimilitude, the skin tones having been somehow improved upon and the indoor/outdoor sets and costumes being handled with the same level of maniacal authenticity as in “It’s a Astounding Life”. It actually looks better than a lot of color films of the era and really strives for that saturated Technicolor contemplate, but in a somehow more “relaxed” presentation, as B&W films obviously didn’t have to try as hard to dazzle the gawk in every department and every second. Unruffled, I had to watch and spy at a scene where Astaire is hurriedly packing a tangled bunch of vari-colored neckties, wondering at the complexity of the colorization process enthusiastic in such a itsy-bitsy but mind-bogling detail. The whole film – with the nicely contrasting exception of a patriotic B&W documentary montage of the USA’s entry into WWII shown at the Inn – is bathed in the warm glow of intimate indoor lighting alternating with more gaudy flood-lit and heart-stopping dance numbers. You have absolutely no thought what “oomph” means until you’ve seen Virginia Dale’s sequined night-blue dress shimmy and shake in the “You’re Easy To Dance With” number. I found it really hard to near encourage to the B&W version after that, except for the commentary and the other extras on Disc 1. Yes, I am that shallow.

Both versions are blooming remarkable at the maximum bitrate throughout. The whole experience can only be described as sheer, unadulterated joy and an unparalleled time-travel share.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment, in association with Fable Films, Inc., honored Bing Crosby on the 31st anniversary of his passing this October 14th by releasing the definitive DVD / CD package of one of Crosby’s most beloved films, Paramount’s gargantuan 1942 Irving Berlin musical masterpiece, Holiday Inn.

Universal digitally remastered the classic b/w film for it’s 2006 release, with pristine portray and sound quality. They augmented it with bonus features including a video interview with Fred Astaire’s daughter Ava conducted by Crosby & Astaire relate producer Ken Barnes, a making of documentary, and archive audio commentary featuring the stars Bing Crosby & Fred Astaire recorded in the 1970′s.

Now, Universal has gone a step further and made it a 3-disc box status, featuring the unique b/w version complete with the bonus features aforementioned, an audio CD housed in a nifty ’40s retro-looking paper sleeve of the commercial soundtrack recordings by Crosby and Astaire, as recorded for Decca Records in 1942 (including Bing’s fresh hard-to-find 1942 recording of White Christmas), and now, finally, a striking novel COLOR version of the film! Epic Films has done justice to this perennial well-liked by painstakingly colorizing the film, utilizing the befriend of Jan Mucklestone, who was the personal sketch artist for Paramount costume designer Edith Head. This was obviously a labor of treasure, and Legend’s attention to detail makes for a comely visual.

Colorization has always been a controversial subject, with those for and against it equally passionate in their beliefs. However, colorization has arrive a LONG plot since it’s inception in the early 1980′s. The leisurely 1980′s colorization of another of Bing’s classic films, The Bells of St. Mary’s, was a slop-shod embarrassment enough to turn anyone off to the process. So it was with a bit of scare when I first heard of someone dauntless to tamper with a national worship like Holiday Inn. I mercurial learned that this was different, something special, after viewing Story Films’ 2007 colorized version of the 1946 Frank Capra masterpiece It’s A Extraordinary Life. Then came a petite conceal video trailer for Holiday Inn on the Tale Films website. This in itself was impressive, but by no means does justice to the brilliance of Fable Films work.

The colors on Holiday Inn are vibrant and bulky, without being garish or obtrusive. The visual impact is breathtaking, particularly on the Easter Parade number, with Bing’s sea-blue eyes all aglow in the close-up. This is how the film was meant to be seen, in all it’s color glory. After decades of viewing it from grainy b/w prints on the slow indicate, it’s like seeing the film for the very first time! The colors in your mind reach to life on the camouflage, objective as you imagine them to be. Bing’s corduroy sport jacket during the White Christmas scene is, as you would interrogate, a rich shade of beige. The curtain leisurely Bing during the 4th of July production number is spectacular in red, white and blue, as it should be. Not to mention those firecrackers pleasing in orange and red hues during Fred Astaire’s dance-ode to Independence Day! Once you peep this film in color, you’ll never want to contemplate it in b/w again!

You can’t go nasty with this DVD space. Those who choose the unusual b/w print, can have it, and those who assume seeing it in color have that too, all together in one graceful package. It’s a win-win status. And to all those purists and nay-sayers who are dead-set against the colorization process, give Holiday Inn a chance. If seeing this fantastic film, in all the rainbow of colors each scene portrays, doesn’t change your mind to what colorization can do, then chances are you’d rather not gaze ANYTHING in color, if it can be viewed in b/w! Bravo Universal Home Entertainment, and Bravo Anecdote Films! Let’s glimpse more of Crosby’s classic films done up good in color!

These three Garfield specials have been fraction of my childhood and now can be enjoyed even as an adult. A lot of the other reviews already gush over my approved parts, so I won’t bore you with posting any the same. I will however point out that the Halloween special has been edited and is not the rotund version shown on television.

Once Garfield and Odie return home after their scary adventure they are about to run up the sidewalk to their house when they peep that the ghost pirates have followed them home. Haunted, they both accelerate up a tree with their candy as the ghosts circle the unfavorable of the tree waiting for them to near down. While up on a branch Garfield asks Odie why they are aloof after them but then notices that there is a gold coin in one of the Halloween sacks. Garfield then takes it and drops it down to the ghosts. They smile upon seeing the coin and vanish, after which Garfield and Odie are safely able to go into the house.

I have a feeling that this scene may have been taken out of the DVD release so as to not horror exiguous kids into thinking that ghosts can follow them home. Aloof, I kind of feel poor the scene was taken out as it was a very memorable scene. But if you can live with the edited version, I strongly suggest you acquire this location as they are unbiased immense.

From 1985 comes “Garfield’s Halloween Adventure!” Rudely awakened on the morning of October 31st by the Binky the Clown Point To, Garfield is thrilled to obtain it is Halloween! He immediately goes into preparation, after another nap and breakfast that is. With faithful pup Odie alongside to increase Garfield’s candy collecting by 2, the anxious cat selects pirate costumes for the pair and off they go! Minute do they know that their night of successful candy collecting will eventually wind them up in a creepy traditional house lived in by a creepy weak man and fearful by some Loyal pirate ghosts!

Jon, Garfield, Odie, Ma and Pa Arbuckle, Grandma, and Jon’s brother Doc-Boy remove us through all their Christmas traditions, from a gargantuan Christmas Eve meal to decorating the tree, to singing around the piano and reading their approved Christmas memoir. Jon and Doc-Boy feel and act like kids again, awake all night in anticipation of opening their Christmas gifts the next morning! Garfield, meanwhile, forms a bond with Jon’s feisty grandma and gives her the greatest gift she could receive on Christmas. It’s a heartwarming and tear-jerking holiday special you won’t forget!

These three Garfield holiday specials are right classics, and, honestly, I’m surprised they’re not quite as stale as I idea. I certainly remember watching them as a kid, and it is grand to finally have them all to gaze whenever I want! There impartial aren’t enough Halloween and Thanksgiving specials out there, and these two are wonderful! And, as for Christmas, few spellbinding Christmas specials are this staunch and emotional! My only seek information from is why with all the modern HD tv’s – - the lower prices for Blu Ray players – - – and colorful that this was shot and originally aired in HD format – - why is this being attach out in only stale dvd quality.

A bunch of older Christmas classics are being rereleased on Blu Ray this year – - so why release the Original Christmas display in the dilapidated format? I guess the acknowledge is – - that I and all the other Muppet fans will catch this no matter how it is released.

They say “don’t think a book by it’s camouflage.” Or in this case, a DVD. To anyone who has watched a lot of shojo (girls’) anime, the first opinion that comes to mind is “Hm, this looks a lot like Fushigi Yuugi, so it must be similar.” In fact, that was section of the reason why I picked it up. I understanding I would give it a chance since I gave Fushigi Yuugi a chance once. Well, if you assume this is honest a Fushigi Yuugi clone, you’d be execrable. Beyond the setting of a fictional Former China-like world, that’s where the similarities extinguish.

Saiunkoku focuses on Shuurei, a young woman from a well-to-do family who has fallen on hard times. She has a passion for learning and hard work (and of course getting money from said work–she hates wasteful spending) . As luck (or scheming people) would have it, she is given a site at the imperial palace, and from there she meets a very bewitching cast of characters, including the emperor who doesn’t really want to rule. She strives to better herself, the emperor, and the rest of Saiunkoku, hoping for a brighter future for everyone.

The series is moderate on family plots and political matters (this is based off of Old China after all), but it doesn’t lose view of the dependable joy of the show–the characters. There are a lot of them to remove in from unprejudiced the first four or five episodes, but 98% of them pause for the entire series, so salvage outmoded to them, like them, cheer when they build an appearance, throw popcorn and boo at the veil when they earn an appearance, etc. Anyone who likes shojo anime will bask in the rare COMPETENT female main character who doesn’t tumble for every hot guy that she sees (which would be a spot in this show–just glance at the opening animation) . The worship legend vein is natural, cute, and almost pathetic at times, and it doesn’t seem forced unprejudiced for the sake of two people getting together in the extinguish. Also, there is a fantastic lack of the archaic shojo fare of bubbles and sparkles. But I guess the flowers perform up for it…

So don’t let the copious amount of flowers fool you. The Record of Saiunkoku is a unbelievable addition to any shojo anime lover’s collection. And once you gather done with the 39 episode series, don’t feel sad–there’s a second season that will hopefully be coming out soon.

I really cannot top the previous reviewer’s review, he/she nailed it. But I honest wanted to add my two cents.

This is an extremely underrated demonstrate! I received volumes 1-3 for Christmas and was thrilled because I had been told it was like Fushigi Yuugi. But honest like the previous reviewer says, all that Fushigi Yuugi and Saiunkoku have in current is the setting of Musty China, (and perhaps some very fine boys) .

In all the pictures I had seen of Shuurei (our leading female), she always looked contented and almost passive, so when I popped in my DVD I was expecting a sweet, almost timorous girl. Harmful! Sweet, yes, but passive or stunned? No! This is lead female character that girls can stare up to. She is strong, colorful and gets things done.

One DVD is certainly not enough for this series, I completely recommend buying the first three for a test drive. You won’t regret it.

The ONLY predicament I had with this anime was that I was not customary to Chinese names and they sounded similar to me, so I had disaster sparkling who was who at first, but I eventually got it down.

“White Christmas,” one of my approved movies of all time, had always looked terrible on home video. The VHS version was a pale, pastel shadow of the recent until the 40th anniversary edition of 1994 when all Paramount did was greatly darken the narrate. Unfortunately, this was also the print that was passe to create the first DVD release in 2000: a dusky, dusky describe with no difference, tons of grain, and a barely-in-focus relate that revealed small detail. Fortunately, most of this has been improved in the newly-released 2-disc Anniversary Edition that has impartial hit the stores.

Although Paramount obviously did not want to fund a complete restoration, the portray now has vibrant colors (the “Mandy” number will knock your socks off!) with mighty better sharpness and detail and very dinky grain to content of. However the characterize is detached a runt too black and flat, at least one scene aloof has registration problems (when Bing meets Doris, the “Mutual, I’m obvious” girl), some scenes could have a sharper focus, and there’s some grief with minor flicker (stability) of the image. The bonus material is very delicious and above average, with family members, critics, and cultural historians to add perspective.

So in summary I definitely recommend this latest version of “White Christmas” as a rebuy on the strength of the improved relate alone, with the bonus material as a very nice plus. I would have given it my highest rating if the record quality had presented absolute clarity and if the film itself were more inspired, but it peaceful remains a sentimental celebrated and a must-see!

I was fearful to earn this recent anniversary edition at Target this past Tuesday – timid because it is not being released for another month. I picked it up hoping for the best. It is a 2-disc edition with all the bonus features on the second disc. I peruse Amazon has finally listed those features above. They are actually quite fine and I learned things I had never known. But the movie presentation is a disappointment. As usual, Paramount has NOT cleaned up the film. The colors are slightly off – skin tones don’t discover quite apt and it sometimes looks aged, yet most of the time the colors are very shimmering and pop; the narrate is not animated and sometimes looks a slight fuzzy; there is flickering throughout the whole film; etc. Why can’t Paramount recall a cue from Warner? They catch the time to achieve out a heavenly product. Paramount seems to impartial throw it out. This is the third release on DVD for “White Christmas” and considering it is the 55th Anniversary, you would deem more care would have been set aside into making the film behold spectacular. It’s 2009 so we should be seeing the best possible narrate. But I guess this is the best we can demand from Paramount. I do give Paramount credit on their TV reveal releases as they do restore/clean them for the most piece (Example: I Appreciate Lucy, The Lucy Point To, The Andy Griffith Note, etc – which are all pleasing prints) . They unbiased do nothing for the motion pictures. Oh, the audio is in 5.1 or restored mono. The 5.1 is base. It is shapely until the singing starts. The vocals are remarkable louder than the music and has an echo-y sound. If you fill “Grease,” you’ll understand. It is unwatchable! So I switched to the restored mono and it sounds expansive. What a contrast! I would savor to ogle it with stereo sound but Paramount has screwed-up yet again. I sold my copy of “Grease” because of the ruined soundtrack, but at least this one has a tremendous mono soundtrack. But it is too awful the recount has not been improved to what it could be. I give it four stars because of all the added extras – it would be five stars if the film looked better. Is it substandard? No! It is very watchable but I was a runt distracted by the unrestored print. I’m unbiased glad to have this anniversary edition. You fabricate the choice.

I’ve always loved Dragonball, i was very inflamed when this came out, and when i bought it I was very confused and yet jubilant with what I saw, let me define. I hope you have seen Dragonball the series before getting this dvd.

The Record itself has been changed. Goku meets people in a different order in a different residence and such. For example, you may remember Goku meets Olong in a village, while in this dvd he finds him in the desert. As the movie goes on more and more stuff changes, soon your no longer looking at Dragonball, but at a whole unusual record altogether. this was both sunless (being this is a DRAGONBALL remake, but also colossal that a unique memoir was made)

The art was updated, looks more Dragonball GT’ish, then the older looking Dragonball art. This of course was mountainous, and very nice looking.

The audio is large, the voices in both english and japanese were nice, and the sound quality was capable.

the visuals were somewhat awful. At some times there were scratches in the film (minor, but you’ll ogle them) . I was hopeing they could fix this, but they didn’t.

The dvd itself is ok. The menu is listless but nice, the extra’s unfortunatly are honest Trailers and Character Bios.

All together I rate the dvd 8/10. I suggest picking this up if you like Dragonball. I do NOT suggest getting this if your original or have never seen dragonball, because this really chages the anecdote ALOT. Be Pleased!

To be unbiased, I’m not exactly definite what to rate this film. There were some really honorable parts and some really bizarre parts. I direct I’ll fair initiate from the beginning.

As far as I know, this film was made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the anime (it started in 1986, and this film was made in 1996) . Basically (in a arrangement) it sort of re-tells how Goku met Bulma and re-tells the adventures which occured in the anime.

Strangely enough, chronologically, the stuff that happens in the film is completely different than the anime/manga. That’s what’s really curious about it, really. I guess I really didn’t like how they re-told the Dragon Ball record. Anybody modern to the series who sees this will be utterly confused. Those with more experience with the note and those who have seen the entire Dragon Ball series may mediate differently, however.

I’ll have to say that I like the “updated” Toriyama designs. Instead of looking like the fresh designs, they’ve been somewhat redrawn to glimpse more like they did in Dragon Ball Z. I understanding that was icy. I also really liked the animation sequences. The intense battle scenes were frosty.

I didn’t like how anti-climactic the ending was, either. I’m not going to say exactly what happened, but factual when I notion the film was reaching a climax, it unbiased ends, which peeves me a itsy-bitsy. Why? I spent a lot of money on this item, and now I’m not so positive if I want to sustain it.

Personally, if you have no conception whether you want this movie, you should rent it first. Perhaps I’ll recognize it a few more times before I accomplish my final decision whether I want to maintain it or not, but to me, this “re-telling” of Dragon Ball is unprejudiced unique and confusing to me.

I recently showed my 5 year passe son “A Year Without Santa Claus”. He really liked it. I was surprised since it was so primitive. Anyway, when I heard they were airing a fresh Christmas special featuring the Miser Brothers, I figured he would like that too. I never imagined how grand he would like it. I saved it on our DVR, and he has watched it everyday since. He is composed watching it AFTER Christmas. I’m apprehensive he is going to quiz it one day, and it will be accidentally deleted from our DVR. I hope this is released on DVD soon.

I showed my son the miser brothers christmas and he has watched it for about a month straight! It deleted on my DVR. Every time it comes on he will dance and suppose and have the time of his life! Now when he wakes up tomorrow he will know it’s gone! Please net this out on DVD as soon as possible!

I remember seeing this for the first time on TV. The record slow this DVD truly touched my heart! I was so tickled to peep that I could steal it. This is a family classic that will touch your heart!

A grumpy shoemaker in a itsy-bitsy German town is visited by an angel who tells him he will receive a special gift and visitor for Christmas from God. The indignant shoemaker starts preparing his house for a feast and makes a special pair of red boots for his expected visitor. Christmas eve comes and three townspeople who have irritated him in some scheme advance to visit with simple presents and he invites them in to fraction his Christmas feast. Later the angel returns to yelp him that the gift and visitors were from his friends and tells him about the baby Jesus being the savior and that He is the apt meaning of Christmas. The satisfied shoemaker runs out and gives his precious red boots to a little child without shoes. A simple sage but surprisingly tantalizing. One of the better Christian videos I have seen. The animation is even stunning suited.

Another title for this review might be “Ha! I knew it!” or something like that. This has the episodes of Johnny Bravo and I Am Weasel I have predicted earlier in the volume one review; as does the Eds’ “Jingle Jingle Jangle” holiday special.

And since this DVD is called “Christmas ROCKS”, the bonus episodes have something to do with music. For example, there’s the Billy and Mandy episode where Grim plays some goth metal of sorts(he almost sings like Marylin Manson if you know what I mean) .

I’m not distinct if they’ll develop a volume three, which might also have the other Snowman-themed episode of Courage, but I hear they’re making a Kids Next Door holiday special called “Operation N.A.U.G.H.T.Y.” and also a Billy and Mandy holiday episode, I assume. In the meantime, I’ll be pleased this and the first volume as well.

The Muppets return to their days of glory with “Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa”. Very nice record – - lots of Muppets laughs – - dwelling designs to rival “The Muppets Christmas Carol” and more will fabricate this one of those Christmas classics that will be played year after to year to arrive.

My only expect is why with all the modern HD tv’s – - the lower prices for Blu Ray players – - – and vivid that this was shot and originally aired in HD format – - why is this being save out in only extinct dvd quality.

A bunch of older Christmas classics are being rereleased on Blu Ray this year – - so why release the Original Christmas note in the ragged format? I guess the acknowledge is – - that I and all the other Muppet fans will bewitch this no matter how it is released.
