Somebody gave a negative 1-star review here (because of dubbing, not the quality of the art) to one of the best animes you might not have heard about so I idea I would counteract the review.

This is a five-star anime, no doubt about that.
Yes there is no dubbing here, but Bandai has gotten a reveal that might not otherwise have made it to the US market at a astronomical effect, so lets not complain too grand. You like to read don’t you? Plus you rep to hear the inflection of the unusual seiyuus (japanese exclaim actresses) like the fresh director intended.

In Japan this was voted as the best anime in 2007 which is something to reflect about. I judge they know anime over there : )
Sola is not your typical robots-explosions-mecha-madness anime nor is it a fan-service romp. It is an exploration of metaphysical forces and the mystery of our emotions as they become embodied in supernatural beings. It is deliberately paced, so if you are in a bustle for some action, then this is not for you.
In a map it reminds me of Haibane Renmei, which is high praise indeed. It has that same type of pensive and inviting engage on the supernatural order of things.
SPOILERS (Collected) AHEAD…
Plotwise, Sola is about a young artistic (photographer) boy, Yorito, who meets a girl, Matsuri, who has mysterious powers and who turns out to be the “Calamity of the Night.” She is basically a being (a Yaka) who is the embodiment of human agony and wound and as such she is meant to always be alone in the universe. Yorito doesn’t prefer that and befriends her. The rest of the anime revolves around their relationship. It is complicated by the fact that there are forces out hunting for Matsuri.
So, this is an anime that is a shrimp different but of improbable quality throughout. The pacing is favorable, the art and music are stellar and the overall reveal is of the highest quality. grasp a chance and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Ok, first of all, to discount this product simply b/c of it’s lack of a English dub is absolutely ludicrous.
If you purchased this thinking it would be dubbed, then yea, I can peruse how that would suck, however, this was never advertised as such here on amazon, nor was it promoted as such in the months leading to it’s release. When you think this project was nearly axed and delayed once already, I’m contented to finally have this in my hands.
The area of anime is resplendent dire moral now. Companies that have been around for decades now have either consolidated, or completely vanished
ADV, Geneon, etc.) Allotment of the reason is the down economic dwelling in the world, but it’s also my view that the anime market is suffering due to a lack of quality anime. There haven’t been any breakout hits in the last several years, at least since 2007, IMO.
Sola is one of those rare exceptions. Would I have prefered a dub, certain. I watched this on [...] when it originally aired a few years attend, but purchasing this dvd, subtitle and all, has enhanced the experience for me, not taken away from it. The likelihood of a dub being released is minimal and to pass on this series for that sole purpose is radiant discontinuance minded.
This series is a rare astronomical that will top my personal favorites list for a very long time to reach.

You are probably not going to regain a lot of fans who would determine “All Monsters Attack” as their common Godzilla flick. The complaints against it are many: Over-use of stock footage, a bizarre plotline inspiring Godzilla and the other monsters only existing in some sort of dream realm, an overly kid-friendly arrive, problems of scale bright the humans and the monsters, etc.
Buy,Download, Or Stream All Monsters Attack! Click Here
And all of that is apt. This isn’t your standard Godzilla. This is your “after school special” Godzilla, complete with a obedient message for the youth of Japan about how to stand up to bullies and a kid-sized Minira who can verbalize English and be your monster pal. Director Honda Ishiro, a name that should be familiar to any G-fan, was involved in using his creations for more than objective entertainment, and wanted to abet kids who were being bullied, a serious social dilemma that serene affects Japan today. “All Monsters Attack” is a new offering in the Godzilla series, and that alone makes it worth seeing. And yes, it is cheesy, but its detached fun.
The yarn begins with Ichiro, a dreadful latchkey kid who suffers from bullying at school. His only run is in his imagination, where he finds himself on Monster Island, bonding with Godzilla’s son Minira, who is being bullied by the monster Gabara. Minira tries to stand up to the bully, and salubrious papa monster takes a tough adore advance, refusing to step in and assign the diminutive guy but insisting that he stand up for himself. Ichiro learns that it is famous to defend himself against bullies, so when he finds himself kidnapped by gangsters he has the confidence he needs to hold action, then dish a slight out to the kids that bully him as well.

Classic Media has establish together a expedient package for this underappreciated flick, with both the modern Japanese version as well as the dubbed US release. Aside from the language, there isn’t noteworthy contrast between the two versions so you can assume your consume. Additional extras are a biography of creator and director Honda Ishiro, which is titillating. I had no concept Honda was an Assistant Director on so many Kurosawa Akira flicks like Stray Dog and Kagemusha.
Anyone with petite kids couldn’t go ghastly with bringing home “All Monsters Attack”. It’s a gargantuan introduction to the Godzilla series and unbiased might execute some future G-fans. As for me, I guess I calm have some kid inside, because watching this was unprejudiced like a time warp encourage to Sunday mornings and Monster Theater. Favorable times indeed.
Many fans verbalize as this the worst Godzilla film made but for me the worst is Godzilla vs. Megalon. The reason is because it uses more stock footage than the other Godzilla films up to that point (which they venerable very limited) and that it was more childish and kiddish than the previous ones as well. But that was the main point! The film wasn’t to be taken seriously like the modern film but made for children so they can defend themselves from their beget bullies and have their have dreams of Godzilla and his monster pals. One thing that is a highlight for this film is that the young actor who portrays Ichiro isn’t as base as some children from the Gamera films (Gamera vs. Zigra comes to mind) . To sum it up, it’s a rather absorbing film to discover and is expedient to display your children if they have started an interest in Godzilla or kaiju films in general. It’s supposed to be mindless fun and can be enjoyed as long as you remember that it’s for children, not for adults. Oh, and the DVD is edifying too. We find the Classic Media usuals, trailer, biography, audio commentary, and the fresh Japanese version with optional subtitles. And the quality is reach perfect as well. So this is a trustworthy disc to any fan’s collection if they are involved and like this film.

One of the better Ninja Films in recent times![]()
This review will be broken down into two sections: 1) The quality of the movie itself, and 2) The BD Disc quality.
First up, the film itself:
Plot (WARNING, MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!)
The time is present day, and somewhere in a rural region of Japan, a dojo carries on the tradition of the Koga Ninja by training students in the ninja arts. The head of the school, called the Soke, is nearing retirement age and must choose his successor. His top two students are fierce rivals and both are leading candidates to inherit the title of Soke. However, before the Soke can appoint his successor, one of the top two students disgraces himself in a training duel against his rival and is banished from the school. Predictably, the banished student becomes a freelance assassin, and we see him employ his ninja skills to deadly effect in a very cool assassination sequence.
We soon learn that the Soke is the keeper of some ancient Koga weapons which, legend has it, grants the wielder extraordinary abilities. The banished ninja comes calling to claim the weapons, but only after they’ve been shipped elsewhere for safekeeping. A vicious battle ensues between the bansihed ninja and the Soke, and at the conclusion of this battle, the chase is on for the Koga weapons, with the film culminating in a showdown between, you guessed it, the two rival ninja students. In this climactic battle, only one survives.
As an added bonus, the beautiful daughter of the Soke is thrown into the mix, but sadly, she serves as little more than window dressing. While she demonstrates some ninja skills, she is mostly helpless in a fight and is relegated to the role of damsel in distress more often than not, despite having trained all her life in the ninja arts. Though in her defense, she’s fairly useful with a bow and arrow, and she’s nice to look at.
The plot is better than most straight to video flicks, and in this case, serves as the thin thread tying the action scenes together, which are themselves well choreographed and well filmed.
The Action:
The action scenes feature the generous use of ninja weapons, including some impressive sword battles, as well as some decent hand to hand fight scenes. Aside from three fairly intense one-on-one fight scenes (all featuring liberal use of the katana), most of the battles feature one of the top ninjas in the film dispatching a multitude of lesser skilled opponents. The star of the film, Scott Adkins (caucasian actor and good guy ninja), demonstrates impressive martial arts and acrobatic ability, and it appears that he performed most of his own stunts. Keep your eyes open for a scene where he uses his acrobatic ability to evade an oncoming car. The ninja villain (asian actor and bad guy ninja, read into that what you will) also seemed to be well versed in martial arts and the use of ninja weapons, and I dare say that the fight scenes in this movie were more impressive than those in “Ninja Assassin” due in equal part to good choreography (far better than a Van Damme or Seagal flick, though don’t expect anything as energetic or creative as what you’d see from Hong Kong legends like Yuen Woo Ping, Corey Yuen, Jet Li or Jackie Chan), the actors in this film being experienced martial artists, and an editing style that lingers just long enough on the action (as opposed to the hyper-quick cut aways used in Ninja Assassins, which is the norm for a film featuring actors who aren’t very adept at performing the action featured in the film) so you can appreciate the skill of the actors pulling off the moves.
The Acting:
Nothing to write home about. The actors look and play their parts well enough as far as action films like this go, but none of them deliver performances that will leave a long lasting impression on you. That’s a good thing though, because the acting isn’t horrible either. It’s just good enough to move the story along, as threadbare and full of plotholes as it is.
The special effects:
There is liberal use of blood splattering, sometimes into the camera, when a katana is used to lethal effect. The blood didn’t look overly cartoony to me, but your tolerance/appreciation of these effects will vary depending on how much of a gorehound you are.
The pyrotechnics are good. Swords clashing generate sparks at the appropriate times, and I recall two separate vehicle explosions also being impressively done.
As for the BLU-RAY itself:
Picture quality on my 1080P Phillips is excellent, though not quite reference material. The image is generally sharp, colors are well delineated with little crush evident in day or night scenes, and there is very little to no film grain, leading me to believe the film was shot digitally, with some grain retained for a film-like appearance.
I can’t provide a detailed review of the audio, as I utilize only the speakers on my tv itself, but from what I heard, I can say the audio came across clearly, with dialogue being easy to pick up and louder foley effects, such as swords clashing, gun fire, and explosions, coming in crisply as well.
There is nothing in the way of special features, unless you count previews of other movies.
All in all, if you’re not too critical when it comes to martial arts themed movies, and you have an interest in seeing ninjas fighting ninjas and killing people in bloody fashion without an overuse of rapid cut editing, you may be pleasantly surprised. I recommend “Ninja” to viewers who are nostalgic for films like American Ninja (the first and best of the series) and Sho Kosugi films like Revenge of the Ninja.
Is Ninja worth a blind buy though? I’d say for the $15 price tag, it is if you’re a fan of violent and bloody ninja films. If you’re just a casual fan, a rental is the safest bet.
Either way, whether you rent or buy, there are far worse films in this genre out there, so happy viewing!
Simple and good![]()
This movie is very good despite the poor reviews. I thought the acting was very believable as well as the story. The story was simple and seriously done, which to me was refreshing. I am so tired of martial arts movies with elaborate plots that end up leaving you more confused than when the movie started. To me martial arts movies tend to get too bogged down with heavy plot and cheapen the action. This was not the case with this film. Instead the director seem focus on the action and choreography and keep the story concise enough the keep the audience engaged. I thought this was the best movie about the Ninja I have ever seen, however, the new Ninja Assassin movie has not come out yet on Blu-ray. At least when it does I will have something to compare it to.
You already know the story–But the action is spectacular![]()
I am appalled by the negative reviews of this movie. Compared to Ninja Assassin, a big budget, over hyped movie, and over rated in amazon stars, this one, is better in many ways.
Ok so the story may be very typical. I used to play action figues as a child and would conjure up the same story, rival pupils, jealosy, and the love of his beautiful daughter….. anyways, this move on blu ray is sleek, fast paced (boy was ninja assassin sloooowww) , and down right badass. No excessive (unrealistic) blood like ninja assassin–although it was sweet, but they show you what it would really look like when someone gets chopped up by kitana. Oh and let me say the arsenal used is so sick!!
This movie had be out of my seat at least 4 times in excitement, all the while i am saying to myself how under the radar this movie was and how overly blown away i was by its production value. Sure there are no superstars, but the acting is far from terrible. Besides, its all about the action here.
I can confidently say this is the best action movie of 2010 so far and maybe even 2009 and beyond… definately worth $17 for the blu ray.

I was first introduced to this film by my friend seven years ago, and I have ever since fallen in treasure with Japanese anime. Seven years later, having enjoyed such marvelous films as Grave of Fireflies, Appealing Away, Akira and Macross Plus etc., this film, Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen(as it is known in Japanese), tranquil holds a special state in my heart and will never be replaced by anything.

What makes this film a classic is the degree of perfection the makers were aiming at from every angle. Inquire Of it from a superficial perspective, the drawing for instance, is lush, sensual and very realistic. When falling leaves descend in water you can sight the ripples; when blood drops on snow it really sinks into it. Everything is shaped and executed with utmost poetry and beauty, and this is correct even for the bloody scenes in the movie. In a fighting scene in which Kenshin kills the girl’s fiance, the camerawork strikes me as breathtaking and highly effective, it really gives the action rush and momentum and makes it sparkle with fire.
More importantly, the anecdote and characters are what construct this film memorable. I have to congratulate the makers of this film because they had an genuine script to begin with, into which they weaved elements of tragedy and oriental fatalism, making it into an tale and legendary yarn of like and sacrifice. First off, the fable starts with a gory scene of massacre, the sky has a color of blood, and the music is sunless and spine-tingling, setting up a tragic tone for the entire film. In this setting we meet the petite boy Shinta(later to become Kenshin) for the first time, he is the only presence in that scene that resembles innocence in this world, but soon later his innocence will be forever lost as he witnesses the killing of the three sisters.(This scene is carried out with ruthless realism and precision, for some people it can be unbearable.) Kenshin’s life is tragic and ill-fated accurate from the beginning. As we hold on watching, we grow attached to the characters, we feel for them, for their sacrifice and suffering, and the rare moments of joy and peace they have.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Samurai X – Complete! Click Here
The contradiction in Kenshin’s life is that, he believes that through killing he can benefit bring a fresh world to the people, but each time he kills he feels tall guilt and unrest. To accept solace and account for for his actions, he keeps reminding himself that he is serving for a cause that will eventually bring salvation to the people from war, famine, and wrong government. But slowly he begins to realize the fact that the people he’s trying to eliminate are fair oridinary human beings; by killing them he is actually destroying families and making others suffer, and that in turn makes himself suffer in guilt. All this makes him nothing more than a killing machine, a tool! The more deeply he realizes about this truth, the more tormented he feels inside his heart. So at this point, a unique character is introduced, the girl named Tomoe who is a graceful figure shrouded by an aura of mystery and feminine beauty, a person who is hurry to change Kenshin’s life forever….
I loved the plot history and fiction are intertweaved in this film to beget a yarn that is simultaneously legendary and credible. It has been remarked that the character of Kenshin is loosely based on a valid person, and the political figures featured in the anime have all existed in history. After thoroughly enjoying this film, I actually employ some time looking into the history of 19th century Japan, specially on circumstances surrounding the Meiji Restoration and various key figures in that revolution. And this research has led me to greater appreciation of the film. More often than not, you don’t obtain such succesful combinations of history and fiction in films alot; another fine example that immediately comes to mind is the award-winning film of 1984, Amadeus, which retells the life of Mozart in a silly and sensational scheme.
Finally, I’d also like to comment on the music in this film. The music is unbelievable from beginning to extinguish! Not only in the sense that it effectively supports and amplifies the drama, but the music alone forms an emotional fling. It is soulful and introspective, at times unlit but weepingly splendid. If you listen to the soundtracks in beefy cycle, scenes in the film reach wait on to your mind in brilliant details. I remember when I watched this film for the first time, I was left spellbound and speechless as the ending theme sounds its first notes. In the destroy the music takes you all the method benefit to where the yarn started, at which point you hear dinky Shinta talking to his master, and you are overwhelmed by a flood of emotions as this horrid but hauntingly fine story is brought to conclusion in a cyclic produce.
In my thought everything about this film is masterful and recommendable. This is a very serious work of art that has raised the artistic quality of anime films in general to an admirable degree. Heart-felt gratitude to all alive to in the making of this film!
All fans of “Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X” will surely savor this complete box OVA/OAV spot. It is very suspenseful and holds your attention till the ending of this tragic-yet-happy sage.
When buying this box region, you are getting your money’s worth. Usually, this box space runs anywhere from 90-100 USD in some stores, but on Amazon, it practically cuts it in half.
This product does not appear to be a bootleg and is very proper on the subtitles.
There is also another OVA/OAV box dwelling that has a dim box and is a minute more expensive. Personally, I favor this one. In the other box state, you do not gather the following:
Reflection: Director’s Cut
Trust & Betrayal: Director’s Cut
(Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X) The Motion Picture*
Reflection
Trust & Betrayal
*The Motion Characterize is sometimes listed as Japanese only when searching for the “Language” on some sites, such as this, but with this DVD box station, it DOES reach in English and also in Japanese, with English subtitles.
(All DVDs = English/Japanese with English subtitles)
That is what you gain in this box space, besides the improbable box art and the attractive DVD cloak art.
[Risk]
The risk of purchasing this box residence, or any box plot for that matter, is afflict to the box itself, not necessarily the DVDs, but hey, sometimes it happens.
Note: On the side of the box, you may ogle a minute logo that says: Rurouni Kenshin or Samurai X. They are both the same.
Little kids should not be watching this. The suggested rating in my eyes would be at least an audience that is archaic enough to handle the dialog and the cramped suggestive themes that are featured. Roughly: 16+
Also: The title is a limited misleading, considering it only says ‘Samurai X – Complete’, but this is NOT the Anime, it is the OVA/OAV collection.

It is probably inevitable that American audiences will compare “Mibu gishi den” (“When the Last Sword is Drawn”) with “The Last Samurai,” in that both films deal the Meiji restoration. This is also a similarity between the two in that this 2003 Japanese film from director Yojiro Takita (“Komikku zasshi nanka iranai,” “Onmyoji”) also is concerned with a character learning the just meaning of being a samurai. The incompatibility is that instead of an American mercenary played by Tom Hover it is a city samurai, Hajime Saito (Koichi Sato), who learns grand from Kanichiro Yoshimura (Kiichi Nakai), who he dismisses at first meeting as a “country” samurai.
Buy,Download, Or Stream When the Last Sword Is Drawn! Click Here
The yarn here is told mostly in flashback from the perspective of 1899 when Saito, now an passe man, brings his ailing grandson to ogle a doctor. In the home of the doctor there is an faded photograph of a samurai that Saito recognizes, and the memories near flooding benefit to both the faded man in the doctor (only the viewer is privy to both) . The two samurai first met during the last days of the Tokugawa Shogunate, as clans were forced to resolve between obedience to the Shogun, who wanted to gain the worn ways, and the Emperor, who favored opening Japan to the rest of the world and modernizing the country. The group to which Saito belong remained staunch to the Shogun, which dooms them as the troops of the Emperor engage control of the country.
The civil war is creating a time of famine and poverty in Japan, so Yoshimura has left not only his clan but also his wife and children unhurried to accept work so that he can send money home to his family. Since he is a mercenary Saito and the other samurai spy Yoshimura as being dishonorable. When Yoshimura talks with worship of the land from which he came, Saito, who cannot conceive of being valid to a residence rather than to a man, decides to raze Yoshimura. But the “country” samurai is too wonderful with a sword and believes that Saito’s attack is unbiased a test. However, the key incompatibility between the two is clearly established: Saito is alive because no one has killed him, while Yoshimura kills because he wants to quit alive.
Buy,Download, Or Stream When the Last Sword Is Drawn! Click Here
It is determined that Yoshimura represents for Takita the personification code of Bushido. Time and time again my Western sensibilities intruded into this film because with his gigantic treasure for his family and the land from which he comes, I kept expecting Yoshimura to simply go home, but eventually got it through my thick skull that the point here is that he cannot go home, for several reasons. Despite the brief battle and swordplay sequences, “Mibu gishi den” is really a character watch and like Saito we advance to scrutinize the moral value of the peculiar samurai from the country, especially when the doctor finishes the record and provide a sense of closure for the both used man and the viewing audience.
In the 2004 Awards of the Japanese Academy, “Mibu gishi den” won Best Represent with Nakai picking up the awards for Best Actor and Sato for Best Supporting Actor. It was nominated for eight other awards, but apparently in Japan winning the Best Represent award does not carry over into a lot of technical categories. However, I would certainly argue that it is Nakai’s performance that elevates this film above the high levels of sentimentality that recall up almost the entire final act. Quite simply his performance was what made me round up in the final analysis on this decidedly different samurai film.
This was the closing film at the 2002 Tokyo International Film Festical. Yoshimura Kanichiro, “the wolf of Mibu”, who toils through the demolish of the Shogunate era armed only with his sense of justice.
I have owned this movie for some time now and never tire of watching it again to prefer out details of the anecdote I had missed before. I gather it has a rich mixture of sights and sounds that fabricate it a tale worth repeating. The characters are believeable and elephantine of emotion. The action is well played. I’ve found it to be a keeper.

Battlefield returned with its same gracious presentation of the preparation leading to the campaign, the campaign itself and the ruin of the war. The explanations and maps are marvelous and the commentary presented well. Recommended.
This film is from the revival of the superb series “Battlefield” describing the major engagments of the Second World War. As I place in my review of the film about the Battle of Kursk from the same series, the revived series was generally not as of salubrious quality as the new series made 10 years earlier, but this film about the horrific battle of Okinawa is almost up to the level of the new series.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Battlefield: Destination Okinawa! Click Here
The films of the “Battlefield” series describes the engagment within the context of the entire war and describes it from the point of understanding of the top decision makers. I would say that these programs are designed for someone with more than objective a cursory interest in the War because distinguished time is ancient in describing the accelerate up to the battle, the role of the leaders of the nations in its strategy, the commanders, famous weapons musty and, after describing how the engagement played out, its consequences in how the war continued (fortunately, in this case, the Atomic Bombs brought a rapidly slay to the War) . There are no interviews with experts or participants and no “brilliant” descriptions of small-scale actions, unprejudiced the “broad represent”.
It was at Okinawa that the Japanese leadership brought their self-destructiveness to its maximum of insanity. It was sure by this point that the Allied onslaught could not be stopped and that Japan would certainly lose the war, yet its leaders unexcited believed in “the decisive battle”, along the lines of the 1905 Russo-Japanese War”, that would somehow miraculously turn everything around. This would happen, they view, if they could inflict enough casualties to perform a collapse in morale on the Allied side. To do this, they brought colossal numbers of aircraft to be archaic in kamikaze suicide raids on the big Allied hastily. They also designed a puny single-seat rocket-powered aircraft that was supposed to be lifted by a mother ship and then released to strike the target in a one-way attack. Another example was the insane mission of the largest battleship in the world, the Yamato, which was supposed to wreak havoc on the landing forces, yet which, as anyone could have predicted, sunk by American aircraft before ever getting a chance carry out it it assigned task, with the meaningless loss of thousands of lives.

One thing that is truly grand was how the United States Navy was able, within 3 years, to create a enormous fast that could do hundreds of thousands of men at sea for long periods of time. Whereas in the decisive Battle of Midway in June 1942, the USN had 3 heavy aircraft carriers to select on 4 Japanese, by the time of Okinawa they had several dozen!
The horrific nature of the battle on the ground on the island is described and the fanatical resistance of the Japanese forces is described. However, in this battle important numbers of Japanese did surrender, unlike previous bloody battles at Iwo Jima, Saipan and others. Perhaps the realization that the war was lost affected many of the soldiers which would mean that those who did die were forced to by the commanding officers and not because of “fanatical devotion to the Emperor”.
There is no doubt that the nature of the battle was a major factor in the decision shortly afterwards to exercise the Atomic bombs. Many armchair historians claim today that there was no need to employ the bombs, Japan would have surrendered anyway, but anyone at the time who saw what happened on Okinawa didn’t need grand imagination to assume that the same thing would occur on an even larger scale should the Americans attempt the landings planned as Operation Olympic on Kyushu and Operation Coronet on Honshu. In the extinguish, according to Richard Frank’s book “Downfall”, the Americans gave up the concept of a ground invasion of the Home Islands and would have then settled for a long-term blockade of Japan which would have led to mass starvation, epidemics and civil disorder on a mass scale, while leaving the huge Japanese forces in the East Indies, China, Manchuria and other places untouched. Thus we leer that Okinawa convinced most decision makers that the war had to be ended as soon as possible.

The following review applies to the Hong Kong Region-3 release:
I fair finished watching my dvd copy of this film and felt that I have to review this marvelously tragic but hopeful film. Mind you, this SHINOBI film does not follow any of the video-game inspired Shinobi titles, rather it is based on the JAPANESE FEUDAL Memoir from which both the video game and the anime series “Basilisk” were based on.

In order for you to cherish this film, you have to have an belief of Japanese customs and their unrelenting loyalty to their emperor/leader. For them, their Emperor is like a living God-man. That is why when a original Shogunate has united feudal Japan, he fears that the wrath of the SHINOBI may upset the balance of power. SHINOBI is the elite NINJA clan, who has been trained since birth in the art of combat and warfare.
Two Ninja clans has had a truce for years that the recent Lord of the shogunate has lifted this truce and has misled them into believing that each clan will aid resolve who will ascend to the role of shogun(in the future) should they have 5 of their greatest and most skilled warriors to battle each other in a contest to the death. Gennusuke and Oboro are the lovers caught in the middle because each have ascended to the role of chieftain in their respective clans. In truth, the Shogunate rulers wish to extinguish their clans because they scare their powers/skills and that one day rise up against the Supreme Shogunate of Japan. They acquire since their goal is peace and prosperity, war mongers should be ragged because they acquire that without war, they have no purpose. Some members of the clans also contain this.
Each clan warrior has character and depth, with variable skills and abilities. One warrior is like a chameleon, one has simian-like agility, one has NEAR-immortality, a woman has poison that goes around her skin/breath, one is a blind psychic among others.
The film itself is very tragic and when Oboro makes the supreme sacrifice to build the children/families of both clans, even the shogunate had to fill that the SHINOBI can have more than one purpose in life.
The space designs were awesome and the characters were well designed. The special effects weren’t all hokey and fit the movie’s go. As in most samurai films, the battles were mercurial and challenging, although not overly bloody.
The film is one of the best ASIAN fantasy-epic films I’ve seen thus far. The dvd I have was mastered in High-def widescreen(EXTREMELY Gripping transfer) with 5.1 (DTS) digital audio(I didn’t net mind in AMAZON) . I highly recommend this film, now I have to yell for a PREQUEL about the warring clans before! 4.5 stars all the plot!!
Kagero ROCKS!!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
ADDED: I managed to explore the U.S. region-1 release by Funimation. It is less than 2 minutes shorter than the region-3 DTS-ES Hong Kong release. Nothing relevant was missing, except for an extended beginning and Oboro’s encounter with one of the Kouga warriors. The video of the Asian release is a lot sharper/crisper than the Funimation transfer. As I view, the Funimation transfer was derived from the Thai version.
In the same spirit of Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon, Shinobi goes very deep into cultural roots with a heavy dose of “Animé” like action to produce a compelling adore sage rich with visual fanfare.
Though the romantic site is not as much as Crouching Tiger or House of Flying Daggers, it is mild a compelling memoir for which you will want to know how it ends. But frankly, the staunch meat and potatoes of this movie is about the combat and the very Animé inspired characters. There are other live action animés out there, but this has like a flash taken it’s situation to my number one approved amongst them. Bonus points for making this accessible to the commence non-initiated public. Naruto fans should get the same kind of intriguing character concepts, assign for the fact that everything is taken with a very feeble tone (no teen traditional ninjas here) . Anyone who liked Warriors of Zu Mountain or Storm Riders will definitely want to assume this up.

It’s been almost four years since I first saw Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and wrote my review for Amazon.com. After seeing the modern complete version on Blu-Ray, I conception I’d reach succor and offer my thoughts only to sight that my unique review was transferred over from the DVD edition. That review was written at a different time, before the DVD was even released in the States. I opinion about going help and revising it, but that’d be changing the past. What I will add are my thoughts on the fresh Blu-Ray edition.

Firstly, if you’re looking at the Blu-Ray edition, wondering if it’s a profitable lift, it definitely is. It’s a worthy pleasant version to the fresh, both in express and clarity. Obviously, with the Blu-Ray the record quality and sound quality have been considerably increased. There’s a few tiny nitpicks, such as a sparkling, aliasing spot that pops up every now and then (The Resident Evil: Degeneration Blu-Ray had a similar pickle) and it can be distracting. But the details are so remarkable clearer now that it looks like a unusual movie.
Additionally, recent yell has been added to this release. A lot of times, “director’s cuts” can be detrimental to the film and the pacing, but in the case of Advent Children, I appreciated the original convey. I absorb there’s an additional 26 minutes added and these parts delve into the Geostigma and the origins of some of the characters as well as an extended fight between Cloud and Sephiroth. Overall, I judge the additions are useful and befriend do the movie more of a movie and less an extended chop scene. It’s impartial too poor that it didn’t reach with a playable demo of Final Fantasy XIII like it did in Japan…

On to my fresh review as it was assist in 2005:
Cloud, Tifa, Sephiroth, Marlene, Barret, Vincent. The names could go on. This series reigns in many Final Fantasy fans’ minds as being the best. Though in original years a lot of people roll their eyes and say its over-rated (and it might be), for me, and for a lot of fans, Final Fantasy was a turning point in the genre not only in terms of graphics and presentation but also in account. I have been playing video games and RPGs since the very first NES. Final Fantasy VII was the first game that made me terminate and go, wait when did a video game become something more than honest pushing buttons?
Now we have the official sequel, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Advent Children is basically a fancy price written for the fans of VII. Those who did not invest 40, 50, 60+ hours into the game will probably have no interest in it. But those who were worried when (should I even say spoiler? ) Sephiroth murders Aeris, who have a deep connection to the characters, and over the 40-60+ hours grew so attached to them that to this day they collected device fan art or gaze for that elusive plot to acquire Aeris aid in game(it doesn’t exist, by the plot), this movie will mean something.
AC is a magnificent CG movie taking status two years after the events of FFVII. While the ending of VII was climactic and exhilarating, providing a resolution of sorts to the people of Midgar, it did not provide a resolution, gratified or not, for Cloud. In fact, it left him empty and injure as we fetch in the beginning of Advent Children. What AC does is attain Cloud’s legend. Another reviewer here made a comment that he liked FFVII’s ending. I do too, don’t fetch me detestable. But the one thing it didn’t do was ruin Cloud’s memoir. For the length of the game, you have a deeply personal chronicle surrounded by the world epic and while the world got its ending, the people enthusiastic did no, dismal or not. As I said, AC ends Cloud’s yarn with a bang. And it is damn well worth the wait.
I don’t deem it would be apt of me to talk about what happens in AC. Share of the fun and surprise is to stare how well it fits together, brings memories of the video game and works to acquire an emotional core. I will support the review as spoiler free as possible because I know I’m tired of reading reviews where people stick in something that can demolish the whole movie.
For those who didn’t play or peruse FFVII, this movie will not have great resonance since it’s basically for the fans, both die-hard and casual. Those who loved FFVII will more than likely appreciate this movie. AC is basically an action movie and the action is spectacular although the dead motion was outmoded (while effectively) a miniature distinguished. The sword play, the battles and the action is all directed with style oozing everywhere. The characters are all though-provoking exceedingly well and the animators did a ample job in making PS1 characters into spectacular CG. The musical derive varies for me from being genuine to honest okay. By far, the best moments are ones I can’t talk about aurally for alarm of spoiling surprises. Needless to say, the music is at its greatest when it brings in hints of FFVII, the video game.
There are a lot of connections to both VII and the Final Fantasy series as a whole. From moogle dolls to The Turks, the game oozes both FFVII and FF; although I was disappointed in not seeing any chocobos, there are a few moments that made up for it. One in particular revolves around the games Waste Battle Theme. Hilarious, laugh out loud scene. There are some minor annoyances. A couple of the scenes felt episodic and not connected. Some scenes were directed very well and lead into each other or intercut between each other. But there are a couple scenes that stand out because they didn’t feel attached to what was going on. In fact, it felt as if they were lop scenes from a video game. Did this detract from the movie? Not in the least, but its there nonetheless.
What surprised me the most with this movie is that it wasn’t done to milk the saga. I mean, of course its there to build money, and FFVII is a stout contrivance to do it because of fans’ care for for it. Anything in the business world is made around making money. But what I mean exactly is best represented in FFX-2. I am one who did not collect FFX-2 at all involving. In fact it is the only FF game I gave up on. It felt like it was a diagram of milking FFX for a cramped more money while the wait for FFXII kept getting longer and longer. However, AC is so intrinsically related to VII that it has a heart and emotion that I haven’t seen in many movies released this year. I felt chills from the very opening moments as the narrator explained some of the events from VII and we perceive a flashback of Sephiroth standing in front of flames. And that was impartial the initiate of the thrills; there are scenes both emotional and thrilling to be found throughout the 1 hour 40 minutes of the film. And what glad me above all else was that Cloud’s record finally received a perfect resolution.
I assume most fans have been hoping and wishing that Aeris would return and I deem the creators give a spacious retort to this in this movie. I won’t spoil the ending, I won’t yell you who does and doesn’t return. But I will voice you the resolution is damn well awesome and probably the most satisfying ending to what is by far many people’s popular (if clichéd) choice for the Final Fantasy series. I do need to accomplish a plea and I apologize for it, but if you downloaded this movie (like a determined reviewer did *cough*) please aid it when it comes out here in the States and grasp it. We need to point to benefit to Square-Enix that this is the kind of sequel we want to survey. They spent a long time and a lot of money making a movie that is teach to DVD here in the states. We need to return the favor and help it.
Square-Enix, my hats off to you for handling this with flair, tenderness and sympathy for the characters.
About the Film:
I followed Advent Children closely from the first time it was announced some time in 2004. I am a die-hard Final Fantasy fan, and although I would have preferred the sequel to one of the greatest games of all time (Final Fantasy VII) to be, well, a game, I was happy to scrutinize the myth continued in a medium with slightly more widespread appeal. Although the writers made an misfortune to allow this movie to stand on its have, people who have played the game (and remember the location and characters) will certainly glean considerably more out of it.
About This Release:
In production since about 2006, this version of the film, subtitled “Complete” is the Japanese equivalent of a director’s slit. In addition to a unusual high-definition transfer of the film several scenes have been extended or reworked and recent scenes have been added to further round out the myth and provide more visual flash. It may not seem like mighty while watching it, but in total the film has been extended by fully a third taking it from 90 minutes to 2 hours running time.
Visuals:
Although worthy, I have to say I was expecting more from the High-Definition release of this movie. My first misgiving is with the inconsistent visual quality. The newly added scenes are generally presented with the kind of bewitching visual detail that HD enthsiasts have reach to put a question to. The older scenes, while clearly providing more detail than the DVD release, are missing the clarity that suitable HD material is of, often appearing fuzzy or out of focus. It is not generally noticeable, but it does become an clear annoyance in a couple of scenes. Arguably this could have been done on purpose, adding a “fuzzy” filter for ambiance, but I doubt they would have intentionally added upscaling artifacts which are display in this film. The most essential instance I can seize is during Tifa’s scenes, particularly in the church; the aliasing on her hair is more reminiscent of a DVD being upscaled to 1080p than of a novel render done in 1080p.
Little touches have been added to further “sell” the quasi-realism that this film is striving to effect. During battles characters’ faces collect dirty, during one scene flecks of dust in the air created minute shimmers.
Story:
While the same tale is being told, the added/extended scenes and to an extent the visual enhancements do add a different slant on the residence of Advent Children. While the main points of the epic remain unchanged, the site is made clearer and clear elements which seemed random or unimportant steal on fresh meaning.
[Spoiler alert!]
For example, during a scene a girl carrying a stuffed moogle comes up to Denzel and holds out her hand for him to follow. In the fresh DVD release, this is really all we spy of her, but in the “Complete” release we gather to search for an earlier scene that reveals she is really trying to acquire an apology to Denzel for being shameful before.
Denzel plays a mighty more prominent role in this version. It was never obvious to me what it was that Cloud was so busy doing before I saw this release, but in this version it is revealed that he was out looking for a cure to the Geostigma so he could serve Denzel.
In the DVD release, the Geostigma seemed like small more than a charcoal colored rash that slowly killed people. In this version it is noteworthy more rank, causing sores that ooze sticky dusky sludge and induces violent convulsions and vomiting of the same sunless sludge.
[End spoilers]
I’ll leave the spoilers at that, but I’ve only revealed a couple of the dozen or so situation augmentations that this version of the film brings to the table. Most of them gave me that “Ooooh that’s what they meant. I rep it now.” feeling. Maybe I’m honest listless, but a lot of these things weren’t definite to me in the film’s new presentation.
Sound:
This film really benefits from the expanded HD audio – more so if you have the equipment to properly decode the newer HD audio formats, but even when down sampled to Dolby Digital, the sound is richer and has great fewer compression artifacts. Some of the music has been remixed slightly and it seems like I heard one or two additional compositions. Many of the songs were written to lock in with determined scenes, and when the scenes were extended, so was the music. I was very impressed with how seamless it all seemed.
Voice acting is one of those things, like pizza toppings, that nobody seems to be able to agree on. I have never been terribly picky about direct acting, but since everyone is different I’ll attempt to provide some frame of reference for my thought. My plan of unpleasant divulge acting is the Devil May Weep anime, and my opinion of splendid jabber acting is Cowboy Bebop. I deem the yell acting is grand in Advent Children. I was particularly blissful to hear the voices chosen for the ancillary characters like Barret, Cait Sith, Red XIII, Yufie, Vincent and Cid. But the actors chosen for main characters Cloud, and Tifa were very superior matches for what I imagined the characters from the game would sound.
Extras:
This review is of the Japanese release, and frankly I did not really care enough about the extras to check them out. I watched them once when the DVD release came out and can’t be bothered to do it again. This does near with an additional keen “episode” about Denzel. For those of you who want to know absolutely everything there is to know about how a movie was made, you will not be disappointed with the depth.
For me the dependable attraction in the extras was the inclusion of the Final Fantasy XIII playable demo. Since the PS3 is state free, the Japanese release is very import salubrious. (If you don’t mind that it is all in Japanese) The U.S. release mentions a Final Fantasy XIII “preview”. I don’t know if that means that it will be a demo, or an extended trailer. It would be a shame if it was the latter.
Final Thoughts:
I wish all “director’s carve” releases could enhance the unique presentation as well as Advent Children Complete does. The extra footage catapulted this already colossal movie firmly into the category of awesome. If you didn’t devour the first release because you fair didn’t “earn it” then this release may be objective what you need to establish the pieces together as many of the more vague areas of the region are clarified. If you loved the first one, then you’ll appreciate this one even more. About the only thing it is missing is the ability to sight the novel release version of the film. Personally that isn’t an content for me but it would have been a nice addition.
Although this review is for the Japanese release, I doubt mighty will change in the final U.S. version. My reasoning is that the the DVD release was nearly identical for the two territories, and there are only two months between Blu-ray releases.

Thanks to a very deliberate anguish to avoid any effect of spoiler (or even editorial review), I was able to dive into Air The Complete Series completely and utterly unaware of what to query. The stills and mask captures have always had a crisp, super and unmistakably “anime” quality to them and thus hinted toward a fable that would succeed on multiple levels. As such I have found in the past that expectations on either side of the coin can go a long procedure in deteriorating this type of dramatic series. Thankfully my mission was a success as it allowed me to swagger into this emotionally saturated record completely non-jaded. Here’s what I discovered.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Air: The Complete Series! Click Here
Spread across 3 discs, Air the Complete Series consists of 12 episodes on the first two plus a pair of specials on the third disc. Packaging, mighty to Funimation’s credit, is every bit as piquant and gorgeous as the precise series art. Within the magnificent cardboard budge box are two thin packs, the first of which contains the two series discs (6 episodes on each) and the second pack houses the third (bonus) disc. In all the series spans 340 minutes and is rated TV 14.
The yarn goes something like this: A mysterious traveler finds himself in a seemingly parentless town somewhere along Japan’s fly (novel day) . With dinky more than the clothes on his relieve, he attempts to obtain a living as a puppeteer only unlike say, Jim Henson, our traveler is able to manipulate his puppet via telekinesis. While his performances are quite arresting, he rapidly discovers that audiences of unappreciative (and broke) children aren’t particularly trustworthy in the tipping department.

Sleeping on a concrete wall on the beach, our traveler Yukito meets an unfamiliar schoolgirl named Misuzu who, with an abundance of wide-eyed innocence, manages to shatter down his defenses. Now I could go on (and on) with the development of the complex and often-times intricate set but as you already know, wouldn’t want to raze this type of narrative for you either.
Keeping that in mind, let me unbiased say that Air is an emotionally driven narrative with a runt bend on the supernatural. Yukito is driven by tales of a winged “girl in the sky” while Misuzu is insecure by dreams so taxing that her health is literally failing. The connection runs deeper than even I expected and flows along a path of mysticism, reincarnation, and the thin shroud between reality and dreams.
In all, the legend could best be described as a tragedy though wrapped in enough mystery to mask the fact initially. The pacing is a bit erratic but rewards viewers with enough patience to net the fact that a lot of the questions presented early on will eventually be answered. While the early fragment of the present sets up the viewer to gain this is Yukito’s myth, in truth he is only a minor player in the mystery surrounding Misuzu.
Back to the pacing, however: The first disc and beginning piece of the second slide along at times with a advance day by day chronicling of Yukito and Misuzu’s lives. Impartial as the viewer begins to win accustomed to the monotony of the pacing, things rob a hastily and unexpected twist in the design of a flashback to the year 994 A.D. in episode 7 (Dream) . This sequence not only really starts to respond some of the nagging questions that will have begun piling up but it also offers an entirely different pacing from that in the core of the memoir. Far more action laden, the flashback segment is even rife with silly interactions. So monumental (and modern) is this piece of the tale that both of the special episodes mentioned above (on the third disc) aid as almost “deleted scenes” from this particular sequence. Obviously trimmed down for time restraints and perhaps continuity issues, the episodes are presented in their pudgy amusing glory as a treat to viewers once the main yarn concludes.
Unfortunately, after the flashback does execute, we’re taken aid to original day Japan in a more despondent tone that never really ceases legal up until the show’s rather dark conclusion. The fragility of Misuzu comes to fruition shortly after the passe connection between she and Yukito is finally established.
I’m gigantic on isolating a show’s most memorable attribute in my reviews and in the case of Air The Complete Series, that honor goes to the delicate background art showcased throughout the entire duration of the program. The skies, the clouds, the lighting, the ambiance is all second to none. There is no shortage of moments throughout the series where a double seize is required objective to produce certain some proper footage wasn’t imported late the character models. The characters themselves are of the giant, perpetually watery-eyed variety with advance non-existent mouths. It’s a accomplish that seems to be either loved or hated but certainly takes nothing away from the heavenly background artwork incorporated throughout.
Soundtrack work is above average and, like all Funimation dubs I’ve encountered thus far; the English acting is legal on the money.
In all Air The Complete Series is an sharp psychological drama with an abundance of vivid, wide-eyed innocence feeble as tool to announce a deeper tragedy that transcends time and dwelling. It’s certainly the type of point to that demands multiple viewings to fully lift the mystery (and more importantly, the clues) presented along the plot. It’s artwork, presentation, and style are enough to distinguish it from its classmates while its subdued emotional qualities ensure that it will earn puny dust on the shelves it graces.
Before buying a whole season of an anime, I always view some episodes online. The first scene of “Air” convinced me that this would be a favorable hold, so I ordered not only the series but also Air: The Motion Record. After the first day of watching them, I never glimpse more than four episodes a day, the tune of the theme song went on constant repetition in my head for days. What I want to say is that this composition is very suggestive, though not for thoughts but for emotions. During the last episode of the second disc, the third has only two alternative episodes to a subplot, you are trail to scream or at least to fight benefit your tears, or else you would have stopped watching it earlier.
“Air” has a dream-like world and story-line. There is some magical reality in it and also some sentimentality. It’s animated that you tend to watch only after waking up from this dream-world how few characters are in this tiny town. And the composition of the visible population: there are only two men, neither of whom native or permanent resident, and the second one has a very peripheral role. All the others are children and women. The vital exception is the main character the point of conception of whom most of the episodes are told.
Suggestion: if you don’t mind that an anime does not have armed fights and wars to attach the world, only personal dramas and vulnerable characters, pick “Air” and if you liked the experience, go on to Kanon: The Complete Series.

Yet another juggernaut has made its design across the Pacific – and this time, it has attitude. Another mega-hit manga adapted into a mega-hit Anime series, Bleach brings a whole fresh definition to the word “Action-Adventure” – and does it with style.

Young Anime artist Kubo Noriaki’s (also known as “Kubotite”) “Bleach” is the epic of 15-year passe Ichigo Kurosaki, who is ANYTHING but an ordinary high-school student. Possessing superhuman “Reiatsu” (loosely translated as “spirit force/ability”), he has the ability to ogle and communicate with Spirits of the recently deceased. However, Ichigo’s life is changed forever when an evil-spirit, a “Hollow” threatens his family and friends. In the process, he encounters a young Soul Reaper named Rukia, who after being gravely wounded, entrusts Ichigo with her powers. Becoming a “substitute”, Ichigo unwittingly receives the task of performing Rukia’s duties on Earth, which include vanquishing Hollows, and “burying” edifying spirits by sending them to “Soul Society” (a kind of Japanese “Heaven”) . And so begins the saga of Ichigo Kurosaki, Substitute Soul Reaper.
Considering the spacious fan-base in the US, as well as Japan, it seemed as though it was only a matter of time that “Bleach” The Anime made it overseas. Already a major hit with internet viewers, as well as a best-selling translated-English manga, Bleach takes mature Japanese culture and heritage and sends it smashing into heroic, hip, fresh style – and with surprisingly incredible results. Almost every character in Bleach is sharp, developed, and well-defined. Writing is grand, and viewers will certainly pick up themselves gasping in panic one moment, and breaking out laughing the next.

Refreshing, novel, and genre-defining, Bleach is a gem among 21st century Anime. Although a uniquely Japanese anime, this explain should point to to fetch over even the most skeptical viewers in the States – as long as you remember not to believe a book by its bleached mask.
I have always been an anime fan as it was a natural progression from my Transformers and to a lesser extent Voltron days. Japanese anime seemed to be the next logical step. Maybe each year I go through one series or two series for my anime fix. And I admit that some series hasn’t lasted more than 5 shows with me. To me anime is meant to display you some action that can’t be done with film (like Gundam), imaginative (Evangelion or even the manga Death Impress), or droll (Slam Dunk, Dragon Ball, 10 episodes out of like 200 for Naruto), and definitely have that impress of suspense.
Bleach has everything in an absolutely brilliantly written state line. It has more characters than any anime I have ever seen and the writer made it so well integrated with the tale line that the record doesn’t miss a beat or leave a moment of confusion. There is no other anime that can introduce a cast of so many characters without feeling any slowdown. The main character is firmly established, but the side characters add to the drama, suspense, action, and can be so humorous that suffers of asthma should consult their doctors before watching or unbiased bear your inhaler really discontinuance.
So addictive it makes you curse the bustle at which your dvd player will commence to save in the next disk or the fact that you have to wash your hands after you pee. And I thank god that for most of the episodes out so far there isn’t that annoying 2-10 mins of flashbacks each episode so you DON’T feel like the fable isn’t attractive mercurial enough and unlike other animes feel that the insensible producers were too idle to earn any valid progress in the reveal. If anything sometimes I felt the epic was provocative too rapid since I was hoping this series wouldn’t demolish too soon.
Perhaps I am coming off as over zealous for a single series and a rabid ANIME fan. But the thing is I am not. I enjoy probably about 1300 DVD’s with only 12 of those 1300 dvd’s anime dvd’s. Out of those dvd’s I probably only contemplate 100-200 movies multiple times. So far I have watched the first 90 episodes of Bleach two times as the author really broke the mold with this series by including everything, the action, the suspense of reality, the comedy, the perambulate jerking moments, and a storyline that has some serious ambition to finally assume down the outmoded powerhouses that stand today (sadly I must admit I am watching the series the third time to indicate my girlfriend’s brother, but now I honest seem to marvel at the record line and anticipate the moments I know are coming.)
And I admit that I am even maybe a closet anime fan as I normally don’t disclose the girls I date I observe the stuff, but this was so beneficial I got my girlfriend who has never watched an anime before in her life because of the “dork” factor addicted to Bleach.
My only complaint is the new chronicle arc (around the last 20 episodes) seems to fair be dragging out the narrative to milk the air time and profit for a series that hopefully ends with the bang the first 90 started. (has a total of 114 episodes released to date in Japan)
