I have to admit that I really didn’t know too mighty about this anime. After watching “Submarine 707R”, I wanted to discover another anime that dealt with the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and another series that features the latest in technology of the military carried out on sea. Especially since the recent author of the manga series, Kawaguchi Kaiji was the unusual author of the classic anime OAV “Mute Service”.

So, what better than to see the anime series “Zipang”, a series that is based on an ongoing (and award winning) manga series by Kawaguchi Kaiji. The manga was made into a 26-episode TV series in 2004 and was released on DVD by Geneon in 2006.

The storyline is about the latest in Japanese technology, the fresh battlecruiser known as the Mirai. The Mirai and the crew of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force is off to Pearl Harbor to meet up with the US for training but during their fade to Japan, they behold a peculiar occurence with the skies and the Mirai is hit by a trek of lighting. Next thing you know, the Mirai and its crew are transported serve to 1942 during World War II.

The main storyline focuses on three discontinuance friends and members of the SDF who are stationed on the Mirai:

Kadomatsu Yosuke – Second in Stutter of the Mirai and has a sense of duty to protect people. Yosuke’s actions is what changes the course of history when he rescues an Imperial Japanese Navy Commissioned Officer Kusaka Izumi. A man who should of perished in battle.

Kikuchi Masayuki – Gunnery officer and third in say and in the beginning of the anime series, is totally against getting fervent in alarm that the Mirai and crew could change history.

Oguri Kouhei – Navigation officer and shares the duty of third in whisper with Kikuchi. Of the three best friends, Oguri is the most outspoken.

Throughout the series, you are introduced to several other characters in the Mirai such as Captain Umezu Saburo and Lt. and Mirai medic, Momoi Sachiko.

In episode 1, “The Mirai Sets Waft”, the series features how the Mirai is transported sixty years into the past and try to understand what happened to them.

In episode 2, “Midway”, fortunately the Mirai has a history buff in its crew who tells them that on that day, June 4, 1942 is the Battle of Midway in which the Americans destroyed the Japanese like a flash. Of course, the Mirai, has the power to possibly put the Japanese fast but under Kikuchi’s logic, the Mirai and its crew should not interfere with history and should obtain a procedure to score relieve home.

In episode 3, “Drifters”, the crew debate to attach a Japanese plane that has a survivor. Due to Kadomatsu’s sense of protecting lives, he saves the survivor (Kusaka Izumi) who happens to be an officer of the Imperial Navy. Kikuchi knows by Kadomatsu’s action, history will now be changed.

In episode 4, “Mirai’s Battle”, the Mirai returns to the space they where they were transported assist in time. While they wait to gaze if anything will happen to them, the Mirai is under attack by an American submarine. Of course, with technology on their side, the Mirai is able to hurry from the torpedo’s but one of Kikuchi’s men who is caught up of having to choose if Japan should win their revenge on the Americans, fires a missle on his contain against the submarine. Now the Mirai must settle whether or not they should attack the Americans or ruin the missle and shiny the Americans will relay info. about what they learned about the Mirai benefit to their headquarters.

Overall, the series is in genuine hands with Furuhashi Kazuhiro as director. Furuhashi has been a director for series like “Urusei Yatsura”, “You’re Under Arrest”, “Getbackers” and more. Character designer Umakoshi Yoshihiko created character designs for anime series such as “Street Fighter”, “Berserk” and “Air Master” and Takeda Yuichiro who wrote the screenplay will be known for his work on the multi-anime series “Banner of the Stars”.

VIDEO:

The video is featured in 16:9 and felt the animation looked spacious. With the waves of the ocean that ship makes, to the skies brilliantly painted to showcase a storm or a sunny day. The animation was very well done and the colors showcasing the darkness inside the Mirai to outdoor missions were well done. Character designs were well done as well.

AUDIO:

The audio is in Japanese Dolby Digital 2.0 and I watched both the Japanese and English dub versions and both were well done. It would have been frigid if the series was digital 5.1 to showcase the sound of the missiles and blasts but all in all, dialogue was definite and had no problems with it.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

There wasn’t really any special features except three Geneon trailers and a smart opening and ending theme for the series.

I have to admit that “Zipang” features an captivating idea of time disappear and if given the opportunity to have unique technology, would you relieve your countrymen from a different era or not disrupt history and you can witness it among the crew of the Mirai. Loyalty to their country but at the same time, those who don’t know what do by saving the Imperial Army will do in their timeline.

I will say that I am aware that the series ends with a cliffhanger and because the manga series is unexcited ongoing, it’ll probably be quite sometime before another anime series is created or if it is ever created.

As for the anime, there are a total of seven volumes and vol. 1 can be found sparkling inexpensively but finding the other volumes online is hit or miss and some are mild being sold for regular note. I hope there will be a complete collection out for “Zipang” with the team up of Geneon and Funimation.

But overall, watching the first volume was quite bright and left me wanting more.

A few things that I like about this anime:

The characters are very staunch, and some of the upright delemas they have are keen. There is a sense of sizable confussion and a bit of dismay among the crew also which fits well with the events of the myth.

The military weapons and systems they employ in the series are accuratly portrayed also. This series shows how powerfull a new day destroyer truly is.

I would recommend this series strongly to anyone enthusiastic in ww2 history . Even if your not into history it’s a sizable myth that most will delight in.

I’ve been a fan of Elephantine Moon videos for 20 years. All my VHS copies have since died a dreary, painful death, and I have waited for a DVD release of these films for quite a while. I took my first descend with the Charles Band Collection Vol. 1 (since Maridian is one of my common FM flicks.) I have to say that I was hesitant to capture these films search for unseen, but since I am a stout fan, I bought them anyway. However, they didn’t arrive without a sparkling amount of disappointment.

The video on all four movies looks to be nothing better than an OK VHS copy (looks alright on standard definition TV, but looks terrible on HD) . The audio is about the same. None have selectable chapter stops. MERIDIAN and DR. MORDRID include the recent, behind-the-scenes “Video Zone”. While Atomize AND BURN has the Video Zone and a blooper reel. HEAD OF THE FAMILY has a unhurried the scenes “preview” of BRIDE OF HEAD OF THE FAMILY (was this even a staunch movie??? )

This collection is favorable for fans of Chubby Moon whose VHS copies have been dilapidated thin, I unprejudiced wish there could have been more time and peril do into the final product. So…buyer beware! These are reliable, but nowhere arrive what they should have been.

Finally, Meridian and Doctor Mordrid available on DVD! The shows included in this dwelling are fairly cheesy, comic-book romps through the land of panic wanna-be’s, but there is such involved charm abanduant here, I couldn’t support but accept it keen. (And “Head of the Family” is attractively bizarre) Be prepared for many, many moments of lulls and doldrums in between the beneficial bits. All tranfers are 1.33:1 full-frame, as they were all originally produced for direct-to-video market in the 1990′s.

Naruto Shippuden is a tiny different from the early Naruto years. But it is high octane adrenaline! Gaara totally steals the prove. The action and record line arc takes up to 30 episodes before Sai comes into the describe. The only dissappointment I feel is in Viz Media, why are they bothering to release Shippuden 1 disc (4 episodes) at a time? They should go directly to box sets! And by box sets I mean, they should carry at least 20 episodes or more per space. Shipuden season 1 is like 50 or more episodes, each season is enormous! Viz Media, why must you milk us of our hard earned money and give us so small in return?! Anyone who buys this disc or the next disc in this series, I suggest you absorb off watching them until you have them all up to disc 10 in hand, these episodes obtain you and never let you go, you will writhe in agony until the next release!

Finally the mountainous Naruto Uzumaki has returned from his three year training with the toad chronicle and the unusual quests will begin, a petite off topic while I have enjoyed the anime series including the filler episodes the unusual Naruto manga chapters have really started to accomplish me hate the draw the writers and creator are doing the series so considerable that if it continues I have a feeling that they may loose many fans, I know I’m at the line at this point of giving up on the manga series proper now. That out of the map the first episodes are a moral joy as you’ll search for Naruto reuniting with not only Tsunade, Iruka, and his sensei Kakashi but will also view how the rest of the Konoha 11 have turned out after three years away. The episodes will also exhibit us what has been happening with the mysterious group Akatsuki and what they have been doing these last few years as well with their unknown agenda of capturing the containers of the tailed demon beasts. So if your not a fan of the filler episodes or honest looking for a action anime here’s a shapely honorable prefer for your collection…

That’s because the “fresh” Jetsons, which debuted Sept. 23, 1962, lasted for only one season on ABC, but became powerful more successful when it eventually ended up in syndication. (Those episodes have already been released on DVD. The Jetsons – The Complete First Season)

That successful syndication led to a brief revival in 1985 with all-new episodes. The unique series, referred to as `Season Two,’ boasted more advanced animation, which had richer color, along with attempts to add swear to obtain it seem even more futuristic than its parent exhibit.

The Jetsons originally lived Orbit City, a city where the houses were literally scheme, contrivance up in the air, like Set Age needles. The family included George, his wife, Jane, and their children Judy and Elroy, along with their beloved dog, Astro. A very sweet robot housekeeper, Rosie, equipped with an unexpected personality, soon joined the family.

So, the Jetsons lived the `average’ life in Hanna-Barbera’s future, which incorporated flying site cars, instant transport tubes, various robots and a host of other bizarre gadgets to perform their lives a crawl. But, the amazing thing about The Jetsons was that, regardless of the technology, their problems were the same ones faced by families of all ages.

In the recent `Season One,’ George worked at Spacely Location Sprockets, race by his pint-sized, ill-tempered boss, Cosmo S. Spacely. In `Season Two,’ modern characters were introduced, including a a second pet for the Jetsons named Orbitty, whose spring-like legs and suction cup feet enabled him to suspend himself on anything and in any direction. Orbitty is also able to change color to consider his emotions.

The `Season Two’ episodes still here, along with the second-half of the 1985 episodes yet to be released, also aired in syndication, and generated the same level of success as the modern episodes had. As a result, a second revival occurred, leading to 10 more episodes, referred to as `Season Three,’ finalizing the episode series in 1987!

In addition, `The Jetsons’ prompted two TV movies: The music-themed `Rockin’ with Judy Jetson,’ and then a good Hanna-Barbera crossover, `The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones.’

In 1989, `The Jetsons: the Movie’ hit the stout conceal with its only film, which depicted the finale of the entire series. We’ve often had wondered what the 21st Century would be like all these years, but level-headed don’t know what the future would be like. That was also said for cartoons as well. Relieve in 1962, The Jetsons were introduced to a whole modern generation of cartoon lovers. The present was brought in as a spin-off from the massive success of The Flintstones. While the cartoons episodes like Rosie The Robot and Elroy’s Mob were silly and chunky of life, it sadly was overlooked assist in the 60′s. Fortunately, in 1985, The Jetsons came encourage to be introduced to a whole unusual generation of fans young and frail alike. The cartoon brings succor a strong dawdle down memory lane for fans very well, and there also are a few extras here as well, including a slack the scenes reflection on what made The Jetsons so relevant and exciting.

All in all, The Jetsons: Season 2 Volume 1 is a pure delight for anyone who has missed the classic cartoon series for years, as well as those who have been more eager in cartoons like Spongebob Squarepants or The Fairly Oddparents from Nickelodeon. I loved watching these cartoons when I was a kid, and I am very pleased they are encourage for a whole modern fans who feel like they’ve fair went to orbit and young at heart. I impartial hope that there are more of the expansive episodes available soon from the series.

When I heard time life was releasing these videos, I was so cheerful. However, when I got them, I realized that they were edited. They are completely different from the unique HBO series. All of the hip hop once played, has been replaced with elevator music. There is no intention anyone can critique these videos without viewing the new series. I mediate it was slow on HBO’s allotment to sell the rights to time life. I guess it is all about what sells’ rather than authenticity. Do not but it if you were a suitable fan because you will be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I decided to check this out because I had heard obedient things about it,and D.L. Hughley is one of my current comedians.(This is the true same reason why I checked out the Novel Kings Of Comedy.) I was gay.This DVD contains 3 episodes of HBO’s groundbreaking comedy series,”Def Comedy Spot”.They each fill 4 comedians.They are all hosted by Martin Lawrence.This is one of the reasons why I didn’t give this 5 stars.The first two shows on here are very comical,and the third one is OK.Two comedians on the third prove aren’t humorous.One of them was Laura Hayes,from the Queens of Comedy.The other one was one of Russell Simmons’ favorites.His name was Gi George.My favorites on here are D.L. Hughley,Ricky Harris,and the very first comedian on here.His name was AJ Jamal.There is A LOT of cussin’ and swearin’.Every comedian also tells at least one sex joke.So if you have young children,DO NOT let them reach Conclude to the ENTIRE SERIES.Otherwise,sit benefit and be pleased the greatest stand up TV display ever recorded.I’m signing off for now.In the mean time check out the rest of the series,I guarantee you will like it.

This is an underappreciated gem-Fam and Ihrie are 2 End Hunters looking for worship in abandoned ruins (fetch it? -hince the title), it’s only 6 episodes but packs a lot into them-the epic has a few problems and the characters are very well realized. This version has remastered video and audio in 5.1 ac3 which really adds to the enjoyment. Very well done.

Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky of Dexter’s Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack fame, this series of 20, 3 small shorts was created to bridge the gap in legend between Episodes 2 and 3 of the Star Wars prequels. This is vol. 1 of a 2 vol. series; the second will be in a slightly different format (15 tiny episodes) and will animate the opening scrawling text of Episode 3. These shorts, though brief, are a lot closer to what the fans have expected out of the prequel films but haven’t gotten. There is a lot of action and the characters, for the most allotment, are mighty better realized than in the films. In fact, there is more character development in honest the one 4 second scene between Anakin and Amadala in this series then there is in the entire second Star Wars prequel. Lucas gave Tartakovsky reign to issue current stories for this series and he has chosen to focus on the various Jedi and their skills, something the films generally lack. Once again, we learn more about Mace Windu and the entire order of the Jedi through these 3-minute shorts than we do in the hours of Prequel footage released so far. What’s really nice about this DVD is that the shorts have been edited into one 69-minute feature that helps retain the fable noteworthy tighter than when they aired on the cartoon network, broken up into 3-minute chunks. The extras are nice as well, though unbiased as short as the unusual cartoons were. All in all, between this volume and the next currently in production, I contemplate these cartoons will eventually obtain their device to becoming portion of the Star Wars film series and not fair a diversion from it.

Somehow excitement about Star Wars stuff is unbiased hard-wired into me, no matter how mighty Jar Jar you throw in.

Thankfully, Genndy Tartakovsky and crew have given me a unique hope (pun intended) with the beautifully conceived Clone Wars, Vol. 1.

Airing originally on Cartoon Network and bridging Episodes II & III, Tartakovsky’s interesting shorts have the goods. Twenty episodes follow Anakin, Obi-Wan and a host of other Jedi as they wage the long awaited Clone Wars.

There’s plenty to maintain Star Wars aficionados elated. Memorable quotes include a few “I’ve got a dreadful feeling about this” and a nice homage to Vader with Anakin commenting “I have you now” with an enemy in his ship’s sites. I’d have loved to have seen a nice stormtrooper head bumping, but what are you gonna do.

The episodes that impressed me most included the Kit Fisto underwater battle (this makes Aquaman seek like a punk), the Mace Windu sequence (although I could have done without the doe-eyed anime child onlooker), and the hissing lightsaber duel in the rain between Anakin and Asajj Ventress.

George, buddy, retract a cue from Clone Wars! Less political wrangling about separatists and more chilly stuff like this that made Star Wars sizable in the first position.

Rescue Me is a big present – the ensemble cast is favorable, there’s a enormous combination of comedy and drama and although some situations dabble in the absurd, there are also serious issues that are dealt with in a traditional and adult light. I have no problems with the note, it’s a 5 star program.

But I do have a quandary with GREED.

This season started gradual so they could hasten all 23 episodes during consecutive weeks. The last episode is airing in three days – the same day this station is being released – but has obviously been in the can along with the other 21 for several weeks if not months. SO WHY SPLIT THIS SEASON INTO TWO PARTS??

FIFTY DOLLAR LIST Stamp for eleven episodes?? Assuming Volume 2 does the same for the final 11, that’s ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a season! Now we all know there will be discounts (as I type this Amazon is selling it for $32) but that’s aloof OVER SIXTY DOLLARS to regain the fifth season.

I understand that past seasons contained 13 episodes and this one is 22. But would it really have been that noteworthy more expensive to add two discs and bump the label a tiny…instead of creating separate packaging – and passing THAT cost along – and gouging Us? The very people who wait on the demonstrate by purchasing something they already watched faithfully?

The 22 episodes were a complete season. The marketing is a complete sham.

Denis Leary’s enflamed Recent York city firefighter Tommy Gavin is assist. I salvage Tommy Gavin an intriguing character but at times it is frustrating that nothing of Denis Leary the stand-up funny with the zingers at the ready and the educated man (MFA from Emerson college) shows through. I teach this shows Leary’s commitment to Gavin as a character.

Perhaps more than any other factor, what shows in this season is Gavin as a substance abuser, an alcoholic. He is in AA and he is out of AA. He fights with the priest constantly about their problems with alcohol. The other firemen initiate a bar and he gets fervent with it and drinking there. His girlfriend allows him to drink but his wife does not. An unrecognizable Michael J. Fox does a sparkling job of playing Gavin’s wife’s original boyfriend who is wheelchair gallop. He and Gavin briefly bond as maimed characters on honest about every level, including substance abuse. It’s hard to upstage Leary but Fox manages it. I was black that Fox did not become a permanent character on the series but I utter he was not fervent in doing tv long term. Maybe they can bring him benefit next season for a few episodes as well since he was not killed off.

Gavin the firefighter is also on much explain in this season. Perhaps his inability to conquer his inner demons is what makes him courage personified with rescuing people in burning buildings. He can even cope with burned bodies which other firemen can’t face without becoming ill.

The least satisfying aspect of this series is Gavin’s continuing problems with his girlfriend and his wife and the other few women who briefly alight in his life. I can’t stand either the wife or the girlfriend as characters and would be satisfied if somehow they were eliminated from this series. I wish they would bring attend Tatum O’Neal more, Gavin’s sister. At least she was a female character with whom we could retain interest.

Of the other firefighters, Sean is the most attractive one in this season because he gets cancer (probably from 9/11 exposure) but must win surgery on the sly because he wants to remain in the fire department as a fighting fireman. We also ogle that Sean can Convey in some very imaginative dream sequences while he is unconscious. Kenny wants to marry a prostitute and the Chief is married to a promiscuous woman he brought over from Russia. This seems very odd to me and I have no belief if this bears any relationship to what choices true firefighters would obtain as to women to marry. That they are able to convince themselves that they can reform these women is sad comedy.

This dvd is unprejudiced hilarious! I enjoyed seeing all the older material from these comedians. You’ll really enjoy first-rate comedy after you gape this. Chris Rock, you’re the man!!! Cracked me up the whole time. Nice to witness Arsenio Hall again. Weep out goes to all the comedians on the dvd. Amusing stuff!!!

Some of the comedians were amusing. the best was DL Hughley. It wasnt that large.

Absurd! Unfavorable! Now this unimaginative scheme of releasing TV series in two halves for each season has reached Gunsmoke! Fox and Paramount are becoming very greedy and insulting the people who steal this sort of DVDs. It is really disappointing to earn half season of these classic TV series (Gunsmoke, The Gigantic Valley, Rawhide, The Streets of San francisco, The Untouchables and others) and wait months and months, or a whole year, to secure the other half. I will never lift half seasons any longer…this is a positive message to Paramount and Fox.

First these idiots release costly boxes with selected episodes from several seasons, most of them NOT among the best shows and largely chosen for their “immense name” guest stars or directors.

Second, after soaking us for those minimalist sets, and waiting until several complete seasons of virtually all other 50s-60s TV Westerns have been released (like “Have Gun, Will Go”), they FINALLY release the first season of “Gunsmoke,” the very best TV Western and the only TV drama to accelerate 20 consecutive years!

Third, they resolve to release the second season in multiple installments! What are these characters thinking? No one’s going to go for this greedy attempt to squeeze money from “Gunsmoke” fans.

Most of the first 4 seasons were released on DVD through the CBS Video Club years ago. Those of us who bought those DVDs are now being asked to steal the same thing again, in excruciatingly dull increments, and at jacked up prices.

Matt Dillon and his Dodge City friends deserve the most respectful and classy treatment possible. Instead, “Gunsmoke” is among the worst conceived DVD releases to date.

I’ll stick with my bootleg DVDs – they may not be perfect, but I can afford them and all 20 years are there.
